Maybe you saw the sprint Matriarch here:
http://blog.knifecenter.com/shot-show-news-2/
"The Matriarch – a smaller Civilian style folder- will return as a sprint run with a brown Zytel handle with only 800 offered in each of plain and serrated."

I think the color is probably meant to keep it "low-profile" like the earlier grey and black runs. Personally, I am not so sure about the brown color either. I think it would look great in the blue color that is used for the Rescue and the forum Spyderhawk and Native, but I don't make those decisions.
That being said, I will probably get one of each. But I still think that brown is not going to help on the sales of these.

Assuming it's VG-10, then I'd guess the Spyderhawk Salt price would be a good "ballpark" figure as it uses the same handle.

I don't have an MSRP yet. I'll ask my sales rep next time I talk to her.

Is the blade steel for the Sprint Matriarch going to be VG-10 for sure? If not what are they going to surprise us with :D
A PE Matriarch>> Another Spyder-Dream come true. As one of my old favorite football broadcasters Kevin Harlan used to say "OH BABY!! WHAT A PLAY!!!
Or as Howard Cosell once said >> "Down Goes FRazier!!! Down Goes FRazier!!!"
Yeah it truly is that exciting

Not to throw a wet blanket on things, but BROWN?!! There are so many other subtle color variations that could be used. I would like to have one, but I won't preorder one until I see the true color and by that time they will be sold out and I won't get one. So really, this post of mine doesn't amount to squat.
best,

I'm looking forward to a Brown FRN Spydie.
It's a very logical choice compared to Orange, Toxic green and even bright blue.

It might be some sort of shade of brown that we are not picturing properly.
Maybe some sort of a tan.
Im not worried. If it's not that pallatable, dye it black. Or Dura-coat.

I don't understand why many people are upset with the color of a knife handle. Are we overlooking the fact that this is going to be one of the best tactical Spyders to come along in quite some time? Are we forgetting that this is a model that people have bid wars over on Ebay and other auction sites?
Personally I wouldn't give a hang if it were a nuclear teal in color. Actually I like some of the different colors that Spyderco does their blade handles with. My blue Dodo is so sheeple friendly that most people don't even notice that it's a knife  . That's to your advantage when you think about it.
I love the nuclear yellow handles on all my SALT Series Spyders because it makes them so easy to find when I'm working with them. Also if you're swimming or snorkeling and you drop the knife it sure makes it easy to locate.
And the colors just adds to Spyderco's uniqueness in the world of knives. The blade steel and the overall function of the knife is what I'm truly worried about>> not whether it passes the Madison Avenue trend setter test.
