I saw this and was wondering if the corian is really from the factory, and not custom/added later? I have one in Black Micarta, but I did not think that spyderco made this with Corian.

Hector, I could answer your question, but I'm not going to. Instead of "giving you a fish", I going to opt for "teaching you how to fish". One of the members here, Ted, went to considerable trouble to convert all the older Spyderco catalogs to PDF format and make them available for download HERE. If you look in the 1993 one, you might find the answer.

I don't see where anyone would get the idea that this was a spyderco knife besides the Auction title and the fact that he says he bought it from Spyderco. He says that Spyderco imported the knives and sold them. From the pictures, Spyderco did not put their name or logo on the knife.

I'm not totally certain that's entirely true. I could be wrong, but Sal once said something which gave me the impression that, unlike the other non-Spyderco Japanese knives which Spyderco acted as a US distributor for (G. Sakai, Hiro, Moki), the Solo brand was his creation, to sell knives he designed, but which did not fit into the Spyderco brand image. Their placement in the 1993 catalog seems consistent with that. If that's the case, then at least for me they'd be as "Spyderco" as the Ramco Laguiole.

Deacon,

You are correct: http://www.spyderco.com/forums/showthre ... olo&page=2

Solos were made for Spyderco, not just distributed like the brands you mention.

Thanks to all that replied. I really like the set with the sun and moon. I had heard of them, but never seen on in person. I did not think they really existed until seeing them in the catalog.

I believe this belongs in the "Spyderco-like knock-offs, replicas, and fakes" forum catagory. Thanks.

No the thread is in the right area
We would rather be the knife in your pocket, because is "works" better, than the knife in your showcase, because it "looks" better.

So, I guess it is like a Byrd. Designed, produced, and sold by, but not bearing the name. It makes me wonder if warranty and lifetime sharpening apply to these.

They probably do not have the parts required to offer lifetime warranty almost 20 years after being produced.

Thanks Deacon for posting the link to the catalogues and to whomever went to the trouble to scan them in the first place. What a tremendous resource for fishing.
I know what I'm doing tonight.

The Eternity looks very cool. The concept would sure be handsome on a Kopa/Kiwi/nextgen gentleman's folder.

I had a corian model solo a long time ago. it is a real factory model and was one of the most chased versions because.....the **** handles always cracked. It looks like this one had the same fate.
...oh you know why!
