Endura/Delica Trainer Sharpening?
Has anyone sharpened a trainer before?
This just came to mind as there seem to be trainers floating around on the bay for cheeeeep!

I used to NOT like thumbholes. Until I used one.
Just like I didn't like the look of Spyderco knives in general. Until I held one.

Sounds like a bad idea to me.
If you want a cheap knife that performs well, get a Opinel.

Well it'd be AUS6, and I've heard that it's not heat treated-and I'm sure that if it is it's not heat treated to the same hardness as a blade steel would be. Assuming it is, though I don't see why not, although you'd need mad skills with a belt sander to grind it (or spend money on Tom Krein, at which point you might as well buy another knife). If you got it sharp though and if it's heat treated it should be fine, the Q has lots of holes in the blade and seems to be strong enough for cutting.
Yeah, I thought about doing it. You'd definitely have to use a belt sander unless you don't mind spending years at a stone. Are the blades really not heat treated? If they aren't that would make for some crappy edge holding.
Im not good at sharpening, even with a sharpmaker. How get your blade good can your blade with an edge pro system? - Bladeforums user

Judging by the location of the blade holes, you may not even be able to put an edge on it. Plus the tip is round. And if it isn't heat treated you might as well try to put and edge on a butter knife.
So many knives, so few pockets... :)

i have mentioned the heat treatment or lack there of (is it their or there in this case??? :p ) anyways when i first came on here back in 06 i asked in a thread about making a temperance trainer into a live blade and that was the asnwer i rcvd back then. that of course was a fixed blade with no moving parts, npueppke might be right with the trainer folders needing to be heat treated to some degree. I am sure someone with an answer will pop in here.

That's because Buck used rejected/defective heat treated ATS-34 regular production blades on a few of the trainers, rather than doing what most companies do, which is use lower grade steel that is not heat-treated. I have one of these Bos/ATS-34 Bucks. I was told by Joe Talmadge that these were rejects and that sharpening them for cutting use was a bad idea, which doesn't mean people don't do it.nathan310 wrote:I saw somebody sharpen a buck strider trainer and edc on one of the knife forums
I want either a Red Endura or a Sharpened Red Endura Trainer...thebestnoobcake wrote:Has anyone sharpened a trainer before?

I would like to know if anyone has a suggestion as to how to accomplish either of these.
Hey JTCasimir, welcome to the forums. This thread is almost 2 years old.

Oops, I linked the wrong video and I can't find the right one. It takes a little luck for the advice in that video to work correctly. Most people will advise you to change the blade and lock bar at the same time because they are made to work together when assembled.
I can't find it right now, but if you look for a "scale swap" video, I think you can find it. Generally a video from Wouter is good advice, I have heard that assembling an Endura is a little tricky and if done wrong you can put undue stress on the spring.

Or find one of the white Enduras and RIT dye it.
