G-10 D'Allara

I believe Sal mentioned something about a thinner G-10 D'Allara to replace the discontinued FRN version. Does anyone know if this is just a rumor, or is it actually being developed?

Sal mentioned a D'Allara 2 a while back, but I have no idea when they're gonna get to it. I'm not sure if G10 was ever mentioned, though.

There was mention of this some time back, however I have not seen it brought up in a good while.

He mentioned a thinner version with a FFG blade.
Not sure on G10 or not. It might make sense on G10 as for FRN they would need a new mold. They might be able to modify the current liners with G10 slabs and make it slimmer.

I missed the original D'Allara drop point so I would embrace a second chance.

I think the D'Allara is one of the most attractive Spyderco's, I've never bought one before because I actually handled one before and I can't stand the FRN handle on it. So I'd probably get at least one if it was remade with a thinner G-10 handle.

I'd love one, although I disagree about the original D'Allara FRN being too thick, it is actually a great handle, perfect fit in my hand.
A FFG blade would be a nice variation, I hope they will keep the original, uncaged ball lock.

anybody have the one with the 9/11 memorial handle? i heard they sold on ebay for astronomical pricing. which is understandable though. anyway pics if possible i know it was from like 5 years ago but i would love to see it other than on spy dot com

Not all knives are for everyone. But, if everything that makes the original knife special were eliminated, then it would it would not raise the strong feelings of like and dis-like. Good for some, but otherwise it would be a somewhat boring utilitarian blade. One of the things I appreciate about Spyderco is that the breadth of their product lines appeals to range of tastes.
Originally, the D'allara did not appeal to me. I guess I could see some thinking that with the full steel liners, that this is a hefty knife, and with the contoured FRN handle it is somewhat wide.
Like many, at one time I also thought some knives were just too big, too heavy, (and too expensive). However, as I continued to collect Spydercos, I guess my tastes changed.
After I acquired one, and used it some, I found that I now like it a lot. Now, I find the additional heft contributes to a feeling of solidness. The width and contour give it a very solid grip that is unlike any other Spyderco. The ball-bearing lock is very smooth and with the Spydie hole provides for a quick one handed open and close.
The size ... Well, it doesn't seem that large at all now. The cost ... Now it seems a bargain. Perceptions change.
I even like the color ...
If in the interest of mass appeal the features that made the original D'allara special are dropped, then the new knife may in itself have its fans, but it just won't be a D'allara. Thanks.
