A little tip when taking apart your knives.
Do it in a cereal box. Keeps all those little bits and pieces from rolling off the table into the abyss.

Thanks for the tip! I spent 10+ minutes on my hands and knees looking for a dropped liner screw because it fell off the table. I used to use a shallow magnetized bowl I got from Sears but I don't know where that is right now. I'm gonna use the cereal box idea next time. Thanks again :)

45 odd years ago a gunsmith friend taught me to work on a folded towel. Same idea, in that nothing bounces or rolls very far on terrycloth. I've done that ever since and it's worked for pistols, model trains, model airplane engines, and knives. The box does have the advantage of allowing you to just pick it up and move the whole project to a shelf if the table is suddenly needed for other things, like dinner.

Clawhammer beat me to it :) . I use a N52 neodymium magnet to keep everything togather.

I always use a turkey basting pan, almost the same as a cereal box, but more durable. I got that idea from taking apart motorcycle carbs and losing parts. Doing in there gives you space and it will hold any excess fuel or stuff you don't want on the floor.

Good idea...this can eliminate tantrums over lost parts you know are right there and you just Can't see them.
I have cats as well, they love to help, and I catch them stealing things all the time.
Cats love to steal. I have one that likes to run off with smaller FRN's, If you are not careful, they can hide things pretty good.

Great idea, especially since I like to bathe my knives in WD40 when taking them apart.

i would also reccomend using tape or a magnet to keep similar parts together. and one more thing
ALWAYS HAVE A VIDEO CAMERA RECORDING IT. ever take something apart only to freak out, and spend the next 2hrs figuring out how to put it back together? i have. its not fun at all. its an easy way to follow steps backwards on how to. =P i always record it.
