FFG Foliage Green G-10 Native.
I'm a big fan of both the FFG, Foliage Green G-10 Delica and Endura....I believe they exhibit the remarkable fit and finish that Spyderco's Japanese collaborators can achieve. And, at about $100 an afi on a budget can put one of these high quality pieces in his/her pocket without breaking the bank. I'd love to see the the equivalent FFG, Foliage Green Native.....and a FFG, Foliage Green G-10 Stretch too for that matter. I like the combination of VG-10, FFG, Foliage Green G-10 in a mid-lock package. I think the Native is a natural for that kind of treatment. What say you ?

G-10 (at least the way Spyderco does it, in flat slabs)
Foliage green G-10

Now a FFG C41 Native with a smooth brown G-10, (or mocha canvas Micarta like the Temperance II) handle, contoured C78 style, might rate
:D

I'm not wedded to Foliage Green G-10.....and a contoured micarta handle would be sweet, but that wouldn't be a $100 knife. I like the FFG, G-10 Delicas and Enduras precisely because they allow an afi on a budget to put an exceptionally well-made Japanese Spyderco in ones pocket for about a "Franklin".....in something other than FRN. Even if there were a plethora of CF S90V manix2 available, I wouldn't be able to put one in my pocket and put food on the table. The Deacon wrote:G-10 (at least the way Spyderco does it, in flat slabs)Foliage green G-10

Perhaps a Native with the "Taiwan treatment" would be in order. I have a carbon fiber Sage....it's exceptionally well-made, and it cost me well under $100. Whomever is doing those Spyderco coming out of Taiwan, they're doing amazing work !!! sal and company really did their homework on the Taiwan source....but then Spyderco always does. :)

I would be in for that. Don't even care what color - just like G10 and the FFG! I personally, never loved the swedgy Natives, but love the native 4 w/ CF. Just too expensive for me. G10 would fit right in.

I'm tired of foliage green big time. I would also love to see Spyderco to G10 in some sort of smooth finish. Kinda like what green canvas or linen micarta looks like smooth.
Combine the Native 3 handle with the S30V Native I blade and a full flat grind and you'd be all set. :)

Just a bit unclear as to where you get the notion that micarta is significantly more expensive than G-10. If anything, when I check the price of scale material, the opposite seems to be true. Can't see it being any more costly to machine either, so I'm just having a hard time seeing it adding to the cost. My guess is that Spyderco uses more G-10 than micarta for two reasons. It can be purchased with a textured surface, so it fits better with Sal's philosophy, and it's also more popular with the "tactical" set. When contoured and polished, I think most folks would be hard pressed to tell the difference.Diamondback wrote:I'm not wedded to Foliage Green G-10.....and a contoured micarta handle would be sweet, but that wouldn't be a $100 knife. I do think for the quality you get it's a bargain, however. I never question Spyderco's pricing......I have a business background and know what goes into development and production.

Far as cost control goes, I'd happily buy a contoured brown G-10 or canvas micarta handled Native with a 154CM blade.
