Byrd CaraCara - broken spring

Hi
as title says, the spring has broken on my SS CaraCara. :(

At first I thought it has only fell out of place. But it didn't. There is still a broken part of spring stuck in spring holder. I tried to pick it out, but it is almost aligned with spring holder walls... You can also see fracture surface in pics.

Warranty is out of question, I have had it for more than a year and even if I didn't, shipping it back to USA would probably cost as much as a new knife.

So my question is: do you have any advice what to do with it now, other from throwing in trash? Other from broken spring it is perfectly fine ... :(
Anyone here tried to dis- and reassemble pinned knives?

Could you carry a fixed blade that size? If so, perhaps you could have it welded open? Are you handy with tools? Perhaps you could take the knife apart and put it back together with different handle materials and screw construction? Best wishes with your choice of how to proceed.

People take apart and rebuild pinned construction slipjoints, so imagine it could be done. On the other hand, there would still be the issue of the spring. I doubt the piece which fell out is long enough to work properly after you remove the bit that's now in the carrier.

Making it a fixed blade might be the most realistic option. Either by welding, as ChapmanPreferred suggested, or perhaps by drilling a hole directly below the lock well and inserting a pin to keep the lock engaged.

I wonder if you could get the broken piece of spring out of the slot by drilling a very tiny hole down the center of it then sliding it out with the drillbit? Of course this might be real high-temper steel and that might be impossible I don't know?
Could a replacement spring be sent from "parts" cheap to your location? I'm just thinking that Sog sends out replacement springs very cheaply if not free on their assisted opening knives.

Use your blades in the kitchen, it's great bonding time!

I could, of course, be wrong, but aside from clips and clip screws, Spyderco has never stocked parts for any of its Seki made knives, so I doubt very much they stock them for the Byrds.

If you are going to weld,I would advise you to protect the blade with a damp cloth and only spot-weld on either side (To keep the annealing in the blade)
Welding would seem the way to proceed being the cost of shipping as you have said.
A future "collectors" item?
