Spyderco Standard Model
Inspired by the Shabaria thread. At a local shop they have a Spyderco Standard SS knife discounted and I was wondering if it may be worth picking up to sell or trade? I went in looking for Spyderco knifes, but they had stopped carrying them and only had 3 knifes left so i really did not look at it in detail. I can go back tomorrow and check it out to see exactly what it is and the price. Since it is suppose to be a budget knife I suspect it may not be that great of a deal unless it is heavily discounted. Any thoughts?

I have a G-10 Standard SE with a single liner that is a pretty nice knife. I believe the SS Standard had several variations. The early Economy model had an integral SS clip and squared edges. I think later versions were more refined with regular clip and beveled edges.

Yes, that's correct.Left Hand Path wrote:I believe the SS Standard had several variations. The early Economy model had an integral SS clip and squared edges. I think later versions were more refined with regular clip and beveled edges.
There's some collector interest in them, but not as much as one might think the patriarch of the Delica/Endura family would inspire. With the way the collectible knife market is right now, I'm hesitant to put numbers on anything. At the top of the market, a mint plain edged one would have brought $70 - $75 and a serrated one about $15 less.

Well i took a better look at it today. The blade was fully serrated Aus-6 and it had an integrated clip. It has been a display knife and on closer inspection it is scratched up a bit from people handling it. Also their heavily discounted price was $55. I dont know how much they went for new, but that seems like it may be discounted from the MSRP instead of priced to move.

Standard first came out in 1884. According to Spydiewiki's data, the MSRP in 1986 was $30, by 1995 it was up to $75, but I don't think the Economy version, which is the one with the integrated clip, was still being made then.
