#1

Post by Lord vader »

My son really surprised me with a fathers day gift which was totally unexpected when i open the gift to see a G-10 Crossbill inside.I tell you this knife is fantastic, its one of those knives you just have to hold to be able to appreciate.Well since i`m on this topic how well does the 8Cr13MoV hold it`s edge?

Judging from my limited experience with 8Cr13MoV, I think its edge retention is similar to AUS-8.

I find that when I see 8Cr13MoV, I just substitute the term with AUS-8 for all intents and purposes. With that in mind, I have been very pleased with the steel and so has my wife, who uses a Flight daily around the house.

Belated congrats on the G-10 Crossbill.

Byrd steel is very hard (the Cara Cara was tested at 62 HRC), and holds the edge quite well. My experience with it is that it doesn't hold as long as VG-10, but better than most of the non-Spyderco AUS-8A's that I've used.

A unique aspect about the byrd steel is that it strops back into shape quite well. A few careful passes on a piece of cardboard are often enough to bring it back into shape. Lately, I've been using a piece of leather stapled to a board with jewelers rouge, and I haven't had to sharpen my Crossbill in a month or so.
First they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not stand up, because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Nice grab, Vader! i have handled 3 Byrds so far (all gifts) and found that the steel get shaving sharp in just a few passes on the sharpmaker. With all your new hawks it would be a wise investment right about now ;)

I gave a G-10 Crossbill to my son 2 weeks ago.
I too was shocked at the quality V. S price.
Have been looking for a left hand Civilian for him, then started looking at these.....

I got a great deal on it too!
Almost made me re-think things..........
As I could buy 15 of these for what I paid for my last purchase.......
Then snapped out of it. :D

Still cant believe how they can build such a quality piece for the $$$.
:spyder:  :spyder:  :spyder:  :spyder:
More S90v & CF please.......

I've had a Crossbill for a while but have not used it much. I used to carry it but now keep it in the car with other emergency tools and a flashlight.

I have quite a few Spyderco's in my collection, and are carrying a PE G10 Crossbill right now.It is one of my all time favorite knives.I use it for trimming plants and removing weeds around my Backyard. It is very elegant and holds its edge quite well.
