Just bought a black Micarta JD Smith Plain edge #507
Its been on my list for over a year.
Impulse buy, had to have it.
Can anyone give me a current value?
(I paid quite a bit more for it than the new sprint model)
But I really wanted it, so no complaints. Love Black Micarta! :D

depends on who is willing to pay it but I wouldn't expect to see a Plain Edge one go for under $150 these days. If two people wanted one and it was on an auction site than Im sure more. If it was an open bid auction with a low starting cost and the people who are after the old Smith decided to stay off line for the week, then maybe less than $100. Many variables to account for.
I personally have always thought it was one of the nicest looking Spydies ever made, nice find.

I think, if it is NIB, than the price is about right.
I like original model much more than sprint. Very nice knife.
Congrats.

Thanks, paid $140.00 shipped. (new in Spyderco pouch , no box)
I see lots of Serrated one's, 1st plain blade I have seen for sale in the past yr.
I too am not a fan of green G-10. I have the new Sprint, but think I will like this one much more. I had it on my grail list for some reason?
Maybe because I never see 'em for sale...... LOL LOL :D
Am now running out of Grail Spyderco's. I guess thats a good thing.
Just waiting for a few new one's to come out.

I think you did pretty well considering the new one is close to what you paid. Besides does it really matter when it's one you've been after

With most PE older ones going 170-200 when mint, I think you did great. nice find!

I am very new to knives but love spyderco. Can anyone tell me if a Sprint Run means that the knife will only be made in a limited number or does spyderco just change the color of the handle and make a "new" sprint run of the same model?
I'm not judging anyone who collects different colors or anything. I just am more of a blade man, I suppose.

Little of both. Sprint Runs are either "revivals" of discontinued models using either a new steel, new handle color, or both or existing models in a special steel, color, or both and are limited editions, normally consisting of 1200 pieces.

Hi soldier1231,
If you are new to knives from Spyderco, you maybe want to read the
Spydiewiki in detail. :)

And so it begin's................ :D
Imagine your Tenacious with an S90v blade?
Or Delica 4 SS with Carbon Fiber scales?
Endura 4 SS in Black Micarta......?
See how easy it is? LOL LOL

for an idea of what it is "worth" -- watch the next 3-5 that come up on ebay, and take an average of the final price. that'll give you an idea of how much you could resell for.

I think you did great - JD plain edge is hard to catch. The Sprint run brought back it's interest I think. One of the best. Here is a pic of my set.

Nice Blade : )
