What is This?

#1

Post by bohica1998 »

I just saw this on Ebay, but the description does not say what it is. From the description given, I don't think the seller knows either.

I could swear I have seen this knife SOMEWHERE on this forum, but can't remember where.

I'm sure somebody here knows. Please satisfy my curiosity. Of course, once I know, I may or may not have to bid on it! :p

A link, description or ebay # would help in finding out what you are referring too ...

Hmm, from the Spydiewiki photos, it looks like that could be it. Thanx

Just in case anybody is interested here is the auction:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0345830621

Currently at $10.50 with 20+ hours to go.

Any idea what a good price for it would be? I know nothing about that model.

Without a clear photo, it's near impossible to make out the condition of the knife. I believe the FRN Walker is one of the more common versions, as I have seen them around more than others. I could be wrong though. One did come up for sale recently and I believe it went for around $50.

Ah, thank you. I think I will pass on this one, hehe.

Mostly I was just trying to figure out what it was since the description was so vague. And I agree, that pic is just a bit TOO blurry for me to go by.

Think you made a wise decision. It's definitely a somewhat abused C37 Michael Walker Lightweight. At the least, the plastic "button" that covers the pivot is missing. The blade also appears to have been, shall we say, "reprofiled". This was also a model that had "known issues" regarding lock failure, so it's not the best choice for a "user".

Go for a newer model

If you like that model for the blade length and handle configuration I would suggest you just go ahead and get a Golden CO USA made Native model. If you could find one with 440V blade steel you'll be very happy with it's performance I can assure you.

However you'll be using some foul language when you go to sharpen it :D

The Walker model was a nice piece in the original Carbon Fiber version. Not too many of them around anymore and most of them are gobbled up by collectors. Personally I never was much of a fan of the Walker design. But at least the CF model had ATS-34 blade steel which was tops in that time period of manufacture. Deacon's right!! You better pass on this deal. Too many good, premium Spyders out there with much better blade steel you could get for users.

Jusf for refernce, here are a couple shots of a C37. This on ie PE, but it still looks to me as if the front quarter of the blade on the one in that auction has been reshaped...

Hmm, I see what you mean by the missing button.

Another big giveaway as far as identification goes is that big thumb opening in front (sorry, don't know the proper terminology for the opening).

Folks, I'm not particularly interested in this model. I just saw what was listed as a Spyderco knife and could not identify the model. I thought I had seen the style in a pic somewhere here on the forum.
