Anyone notice on the second page (link) where it has the pics of the knife blades "slicing" through the paper they have one of the blades listed as a Spyderco "Archistrial"? :confused:

That's one I've never heard of.....

That along with about 40 others. I joined the Guiild in '79 and the ABS in '83. My custom collection was "themed" with "the first serrated knife made by the maker". They picked the design and added teeth. I have a serrated damascus folder from Jot Khalsa, with a ruby thumb stud and jade scales. I have an Al Pendray Wootz Persian Dagger, fully serrated. Heck, I have a serrated Mnandi.

We'd like to set up a display in the outlet store with the different models. Just been too busy to get to it.

I might have to check back often at the SFO to see if the display ever comes out. This would be really interesting to see!!! plus it would give me an excuse to visit the store more often! :D

Marion I can't thank you enough for posting that older article about serrated blades. I've only been an avid, fanatical knife collector, user, restorer, sharpener and afficionado since 1995 the year I bought my first premium piece of cutlery.

My first 2 premium blades I bought in January of 1995 were the Benchmade model 640 Boguszewski Spike and my GIN-1 Spyderco Mariner. The rest is history as they would say.

I have several of the popular knife magazines I've kept and archived since 1995. So if there is any info you might need out of any of them feel free to let me know.

Over the years I've read at least 6 great articles about serrations in the 3 most popular knife magazines. It's truly amazing how the knife scene has evolved in the past 15 years since I've been intrigued by it. Again Marion I sincerely thank you. JD :spyder: O

Hey Marion,

Interesting to note that by the time that article came out, we had already been making serrated edges for almost 10 years.

Steven Dick wrote the first article about our serrated Mariner in a Canoe magazine much earlier. But Steve always did like to do his own testing. It was in the actual using our serrated edges that they commanded attention.

Our "road Warriors" (Steve Gartin, Lynn Laseter, Cookie Blackard, Mike & Nancy Foley along with Gail and I) were the demonstrators that finally convinced the knife customers that teeth had value. Most dealers wouldn't touch our "fugly" knives for a good 5 years after we introduced them.

Generally speaking, the knife magazines available in the early 80's never dared to write about teeth. It was only after half the knife companies in the world followed our lead that teeth became worthy of an article.

I've used both in harsh conditions, and nothing comes close to a serrated edge for work.

Thanks for the article. I've saved them for future reference. It is amazing really to think about it. Funny that in 1991 I was a senior in high school. Crazy.

Sal, I wonder, do you acquire knives that are PE and then put Spyderco serrations on them? 'Cause I know I sure would. :-)
