I have heard so much about this knife with Spyderco enthusiasts over the years. What makes this knife so special? I just bought one a few minutes ago but have never held one. The blade looks awesome.

When I look at this knife it strikes me as a knife that could stand up against the Delica and Endura. Meaning that it has that perfect design of a knife that could be a flagship model. Thoughts?

Problem is, in order to become a flagship model, an knife has to appeal to "John Q Knifebuyer" whose tastes are generally quite different from those of us in the "affi" community. They seem to prefer models with hollow saber grinds and without 50/50 choils. That's why the Calypso Jr sold poorly and was retired quickly.

On the other hand, I am kind of sad that Sal appears to have permanently retired the Calypso Jr. Every Sprint Run of them has sold out quickly and there are always new "affis" coming along who deserve the experience of carrying this featherweight pocket laser.

After you'll carry this knife for a couple days, you'll understand.

Lightweight, good ergos, flat ground, inexpensive (at least they were originally). What's not to like? We're over due for a sprint of the Caly Jr. I would buy it in any steel. How about a G-2 run? It would be super affordable.

Because it is a folding SCALPEL. Nothing I have cuts like a Jr.
Now, it's not meant for heavy duty, but most people don't need a heavy duty knife much. :)

I never warmed up to mine. I read all about it, had to have one, so I got one. It is nice, and I understand why everyone likes it, but it just never punched my buttons. I greatly prefer the UKPK or Caly3.

It just sits in the safe now. I take it out every so often and consider carrying it, but just can't do it. Maybe someday I'll get to it or do something with it.

Yeah one of the biggest "knife mistakes" I have ever made was getting rid of the 3 Grey Calypso Jr's I had.

I just didn't know what I had at the time. I wish I could get another one.

It was/is THE slicer.

I really like the size and weight of my Calypso Jr. ZDP and it's the sharpest knife I have, it came that way from the factory.

That said, the Native from Wal-Mart fits my old hands better and the Caly Jr. is too expensive and too hard to replace for edc.

My Krein reground ZDP Caly Jr. Is probably my most used pocket knife. Itis so light and cuts so well it is amazing.

One of my favorite knives. Compact, sharp and virtually indestructable. Since I took this pic I added both Micarta versions and an SS/SE model but can't find the elusive SS/PE to complete things. I carry an FRN SE model daily.

Lets say one had one of these and was interested in disposing of it to someone who would enjoy it more. Can you still do these on ebay? It's been awhile and I know that they have gotten weird about stuff.

You can sell knives on ebay with no problem. Some sellers post a statement of age requirements etc. Which model do you need to dispose of?

Amazing knife, I wish these were still available at regular price.

Super lightweight, barely smaller than the Delica, rides nice and low in the pocket, great flatground blade...

My only complaint is a lack of jimping.

Got my micarta Caly Jr. 10 days ago. Was not impressed when I saw it (expectations probably too high), but every day I carried it, I liked it more. Very light and very sharp. I have to be careful cutting apples as it goes all the way through with little force. The open shape is also aesthetically pleasing and as I said in another thread, I love the little "tok" sound when it's opened.

Favorite EDC knife so far. Will compete with the RIL Sage when it comes out.

The Calypso Jr. is like the 1987 Buick Grand National. They had to stop making them because you could get a car for $14,000 that would smoke a Corvette that people were paying $40,000 for.

Think about it. You could buy these for around $47 + shipping a few years back (the standard VG-10 version) and right now you cannot find anything (other than a dragonfly) with a full flag grind VG-10 and FRN for even $60. Kinda sad really.

I guess with the Calypso Jr. people didn't need to buy anything else.

Well with all these great posts I'm really excited about getting it. I actually think I grabbed it at a fair price. I don't know what their value is but it was a buy it now for 69.00.

I also don't know anything about the age but I have never owned one with a white box. Yes, I know my lack of knowledge is showing. I really want one of the ones in Micarta but I can't seem to snag one. This will be a good start though. Looks like I may have found my perfect apple cutter. :D

I bought a Calypso jr FRN and a Calypso jr inox last week. I'm very happy now! :D

If you don't use a knife as a pry-bar, the Calypso Jr. is one of the best out there.

I currently have 4 (2 Micarta, 1 SS, 1 VG-10 FRN and a ZDP FRN) and one more is in the mail. My wife has 2 of the VG-10 FRN that I've given her and I've given away about 4 others.

It's a great knife with few peers that can do what it can. My new Native 4 comes very close in overall performance, but the price is quite a bit higher than the FRN Calypso Jr's. I'm really looking forward to the lower-cost Native 4 as a potential replacement "give-away" knife.
