In one word, what do you life about Spydercos?

Post by kgriggs8 »

Pick the most important thing about what Spydercos are and state. Explain if needed but try to stick to a single word or a contraction.

Mine is LIGHT.

Spyderco makes the best light weight knives out there. There are a lot of makers making strong well built knives. They are also heavy. As far as I know, no other maker has a lighter stronger knife for the money or so many of them in the line up.

The new Enduras and Delicas are toying with being too heavy but they are still light. The old Delica III was perhaps the finest knife ever made by Spyderco for the masses. I knew people who wouldn't carry a knife that carried Delicas.

Type of steel and flat grind

not that many other brands willing to use some of the best steel like CPMD2, ZDP, S90V and made them into full flat grind blades. hint, one other big brand is on the roll with new exotic steel like ZDP, S110V and Damascus but unfortunately no FFG and I hate AO, the other big brand just don't have FFG at all except older 2 models.

There should be a law that all knives must be made full flat ground unless the maker has a permit and a valid reason to do otherwise :D

Of course, there should also be a law that when you're asked for one word, you don't give half a dozen. We're just a lawless bunch, I guess. :D

USABLE - Their design makes them feel comfortable in my hand and allows me total control of them. Their quality means I never have wonder if they will open, or whether they will be up to the task at hand once they do. And, since you can't really use a knife until it's open, there's the Spyderhole opener which allows me to open them more easily than any other opening system. So, in a nutshell, they are eminently usable. :D

reliable

I know that my knife isn't going to fail on me any time soon, despite the abuse they get once in a while.

DITTO

I've owned a lot of knives over the years. Many were well crafted, sharp and reliable. But none were as purely functional as most of my Spydies.
