When I got a Ladybug 3 one hand operation was awkward (I'm a Native guy) but after opening and closing it a couple thousand times I can one hand it just fine.

The Dragonfly resists my thumb opening advances, that built in pocket clip causes it to roll in my fingers when I try to thumb the Spyderhole. Using thumb nail or thumb pad makes little difference, the Dragonfly just doesn't cooperate.

Getting a Dragonfly by the hole and swinging the handle down with finger tips works as would a Spyder Drop or Spyder Wave after the knife loosens/smooths up but thumbing it open just doesn't.

Anybody else have the same problem? Any advice?

i dont EDC a dragonfly but ive never had a problem opening it, just a small sized Spyderco

I have a Dragonfly in both FRN and SS. I find the SS version is easier to open one handed. It's my EDC knife right now and I like everything about it with the exception of how high it rides when clipped in my pocket. Almost an inch of the handle sticks out.

I'm a lefty and I have a hard time opening my Dragonfly. It feels very awkward to try to open one handed.

No problems here. I can say the first generation blades are a bit less user friendly than the current ones. I think that has to do with the location of the round hole.

I EDC a SS Dragonfly and I find I have no problems with it. It's a great little knife. I use it for all kinds of stuff, I was even able to use it in a closeed position to open up a bottle that didn't have a screw off cap the other day. I find new uses for it all the time. It's kind of my beater knife, but I still love it.

The Dragonfly is the smallest Spyder that I can easily open one handed. The only reason I can open my Ladybug with one hand is it is anchored to my keys.

same problem here w/ my still new etched dfly, hope opening it few hundred times will help loose it up...

the ss 'fly does loosen up nicely after opening a few hundred times (which in reality is a bored weekend on the couch).

My glasshart engraved is still nice and tight, but my edc ss is nice and loose after 7 years of heavy use (quite often bordering on abuse). Have to get around to grabbing an engraved one while my local still has stock.

I took me a while to quit laughing to be able to type this,Anyway i have done that too.A knife would never get broke in if a person only opened there knife when they really needed to.The good way to accomplish proper break in is just as you mentioned. :)

If you want a super smooth knife run your bathtub half full of warm water hold the knife under and move it in a choping motion rapidly a few times take it out and soak it down with oil let it set all night then rub with a rag inside out openingg and closing several times and wiping the oil as you go

Mine opens better than my endura

Starting with your middle finger on the clip on down to your pinky use your thumb to swing it helps me most

I can thumb open a Ladybug, so the Dfly is no problem. I have pretty huge hands too.

No problem with the fly. Delica is easiest. Endura a little harder but not bad.

I have no problem with mine. I can flick open too, but I can flick open my ladybug hawkbill too (maybe I spend too much time playing with my Spyderco's).

I can open it slowly. I can get it to open with a flick, but it only opens about half way and I need to swing a little to get it to open fully.

On my DFlys, I attache a small lanyard and fob that gives my pinkie and ring fingers a little better grip on the knife. I also remove the clip because I like to carry in-pocket. I've never had any problem one-handing the DFly (either Gen1 or Gen2).
