JD Smith Sprint Run (pics)
JD Smith Sprint Run (pics)
Just got this in. It's everything I was hoping it would be :)
Fit and finish is top notch. Construction is pinned, not screwed, but the pivot is adjustable. Lockup is rock solid and the FFG blade is up to the usual :spyder: standard; hair poppin' sharp. The dual liners make it slightly thicker than the original.
The dull (bead blasted?) silver clip was a nice surprise. I prefer it over black. With the FG G-10 scales, this version impresses me as more of a user than collectors' item. That's fine with me; I intend to use it a lot.

I'm an admirer of Spyderco's designs. Using them is like immersing yourself in music or studying a painting in a museum. I buy some "fine" art but my preference is for usable art.

Thanks for the pictures, Tom. That's a real splinter-picker. I'm really looking forward to getting mine.

I really like the Smith, especially with the FFG blade. However, the FG handles are the real "deal-killer" for me.
Guess I'll just continue to patiently wait for the RIL Sage....
Wonder why they settled on pinned construction instead of screws? Is it less expensive to pin or are the pins actually proving more durable over the long haul?

Very beautiful knife. For some reason though it seems weird. It's almost like the FFG takes away from the original blade. I mean the original blade seems to have prettier lines and more character.
I'm not buying any knives in 2009 anyway....not in this economy.

This knife was a great disappointment for me.
The blade seems was smaller, compared to the older thick blade. Also, the Foliage Green is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo overdone already, I'm getting sick to my stomach already, instead of reminding me of nice, natural colors, now it just reminds me of fungus, maybe vomit.... WAY TOO MUCH FG, SPYDERCO!
