2009 Shot Show

Well I was at the Shot Show in Orlando today.
At the Spyderco booth in the LE area (there are 2 booths), Gene Viele was most helpful. (Everyone else working the booth was helpful, too, to their customers... Gene was just the poor guy who got stuck with us for 20 minutes.)
There were several prototypes that were downright interesting.
The ball locking system used on the Phoenix is superkewl!! I want to see this on more blade designs, but meanwhile I may have to have one.
Gotta have a Barong, too. The shape is very similar to the Grohmann camp knife model 1; however, I see that it's actually a Filipino-inspired design. If you're reading this and you haven't looked at one of the Barongs, run do so immediately.
Here's a link in the Spyderco catalog :D
Finally, thanks Gene for all your patience with our many questions and with our wanting to see, feel, and fondle almost every prototype and play with the balisongs. And thanks for the ring-finger opening method. I'll be adding that one to my bag of tricks.
Thanks again and kudos to the folks at both booths--y'all are doing a great job. 3 more days on your feet. Wish I was going back, but one day was all I could do.

The knifecenter blog has a good write up on what was there:
http://blog.knifecenter.com/
It mentions the tiny new Bug Slipit brought up elsewhere on the forum. According to them the retail is only $7.95. I must resist the urge to get one now- they will apparently be available cheaper if you can wait...
Also a few other models not in the 2009 catalog were covered including the NEW MANIX TWINS!!!

There was a Polliwog with G-10 scales. There was a trainer with the wave-type opening system. There was NOT a Phoenix with G-10 scales... a pity. There were more, but those two were the ones that really stood out because I'm constructing my Christmas list. :D

VG-10 Dyad>> Is it there at SHOT??

But no mention of the new VG-10 Dyad  ??? I sure hope that Sal didn't change his mind about that one.
However I am elated to hear of the new Temperance model with Micarta handles. I'll probably be first in line for a pair of those. I do hope they offer them in SE & PE both.
Some of these other models sure sound great too. But I do hope that eventually there will be another fish fillet knife on the Horizon. How about an H-1 Catcherman?

There was a small area of the case for prototypes, and I guess there were about 20 or so... some duplicates. I can't remember them all, and I should have taken photos. :spyder:

Or any other decent design in flat grind made with H-1? There may actually be one, but I'm done buying hollow-ground knives. Thankfully the :spyder: Barong is flat-grind because I like that design. Birthday wishes have already been communicated to my better half. :D

Lot's of cool new knives. Many of which are definitely going to be produced.
For those craving pics, there was a sign on the case clearly asking that photos not be taken. So we'll have to wait... :D

AFAIK, I saw the balance from Ed Schempp the first time during the Solingen mini show in 2007. I even have some (Top Secret) pics of it :)
