Looking for some Urban details.

#1

Post by 712KY »

I, like many others, am looking forward to getting an Urban in my hands. I have noticed in the 09 catalog that the FG model is specifically listed with the leaf blade and likewise the orange model is listed with the Wharncliff blade. Of course, my hope was to get the orange handle with the leaf blade. Will I be able to order it in that specific configuration? My fear is that I won't and then I'll have to order the orange handled wharnie and then get the leaf blade separately (at additional cost). Of course, that wouldn't be the end of the world. I just have to watch the $$.

Also, will the other blade designs be available at the same time the Urban is rolled out? Or will there be a time lag on the lambsfoot and safety blades. And is there any indication of the cost of just the blade?

And of course, any idea of how close we are to the release.

Based on past practices, the two configurations shown in the catalog will be the two, or at least the first two, offered. Perhaps other combinations of color and blade shape will be offered some time further down the road.

As for purchasing an extra blade. Once again, unless Spyderco changes its normal policy, this will not be possible. They sell knives, not parts, so you'd have to purchase both knives and either swap blades yourself or find someone to do it for you. That might actually cost you less in the end, as you may be able to find a buyer for the other knife.

I'm sure Spyderco won't offer spare parts for the Urban to make your own variation. Although Sal has hinted in the past that could have been a possibility.

I have taken apart all my UKPKs, just to switch the clip. I'm positive that the Urbans will be real easy to swap for different blades/handles. I plan on getting both, to make an orange leaf shape Urban, just like the prototype that was shown last year.

Anyone Done Urban Blade Swap Yet?

#5

Post by Pneumothorax »

I just looked at the new Urbans and I like the blade size. I really like the orange since I dont have one of those, but I want the leaf blade. I know from above that it sounds like the blades can be swapped, but has anyone done it yet? I know I would have to buy both to do this, but what better excuse to get another Spyderco?

I just ordered my Wharnie Orange Urban. It shipped out today. I've been waiting for a LONNNG time. Very exciting!

You guys aught to start a blade swap thread on here (if Sal OK's it) and see who wants to trade blades.

I'd be interested in a FG wharncliffe one myself.

Anyone have photos of this knife in hand? I'm curious as to how well a 4 finger grip will work on it for me, seems like the size will be cutting it close.

Just got my Urban today from Knifeworks - four days from order to delivery!!

I usually wear a size "L" or "XL" glove. The grip feels very good on the Urban (of course, I feel like I can get a good grip on my Meerkat, too...)
