Wow, I've never opened a new Spyderco and got anything that looked as bad as that. It almost looks like it was over buffed or worn down. Maybe a worker at the factory that was going too quick? I would contact Spyderco and see if they will regrind or replace the blade for you, I don't see why they wouldn't if it was purchased new
That definitely looks messed up, I wonder if someones tried to grind out a "seconds notch" and pass it off as new. I doubt it left the factory like that.
All factory seconds are marked with a notch, usually on the blade tang, this link should help explain more...http://paulberetta.com/... scroll down to Spyderco "101" this should answer your question.
Thanks for the link. I looked at it again and I don't see anything like a seconds notch. I would imagine it didn't leave the factory looking like this. The funny things is...it's not like a little mishap with the jimping. It's royally screwed like someone with no skill decided to give it a try!
The only knife I have with that style of jimping is my chinook III and that is flawless, perhaps someone could post what the "para's" jimping is supposed to look like.
Heres a pic of my camo Military,S30V CF Military and Native.
That type jimpimg is much rougher and inconsistent than any other, out of all the knives I have had with it the CF Military was the best.
I like the jimping on this Native better than any that has been used to date.
Thanks for taking the time to post those. I guess mine is not defective. I've never seen them look like that. I have another Para that looks like the one in your picture on the far right. I guess I'll just deal with it.
Maybe it's just me but the jimping on the Para's looks more "waved" in those pictures than "square" like the Native's or Military's. Maybe it's an intentional design? Myself, I prefer the much more aggressive "square" jimping.
IMO that would be a second for any major knife company. My Para's jimping, nor any others I've seen, doesn't look anything like that at. Maybe Sal will weigh in. If I was told that was a brand-new, never used knife, then I would send it back to the seller if I could not inspect the knife prior to buying. If you were able to inspect it and still bought it then you may have no recourse. I would still try to get another knife or my $ back from the seller. Good luck whatever you decide.
That is how the old jimping was? That's almost no jimping. OK, I'm a newbie to Spydercos.. you guys are the pros. When did they end that style of jimping on the Paras?

I see nothing wrong with that knife. So it has the "old" jimping. Looks good to me.
Please tell me you are not that worked up about the top jimping having a small nub on it.
:)
I agree with ya David. I got 2 paras with the same type jimpin and its almost more grippy than the style thats close together. I see no problem as well :D
:spyder::spyder:If its not Spyderco its CRAP!!!!!!!!:spyder::spyder:
