UKPK joint question.

#1

Post by spyderHS08 »

Just got my orange ukpk and i love it! the color, the blade, its razor sharp, and the slip joints pretty cool and alot stronger than i thought it would be.
You guys that have one, is the slip joint as strong and sterty after using it and after 100s of opens and closes? just wondering how it holds up.
thanks!

Congrats on your UK. I love mine. I have slip joints older than I am (30) they still work fine. I suspect the UKPK is built to a much higher standard and will outlast all of them.

I carry my UKPK all the time. Loosened up a smidge, but really just broken in, smoother open and close.

The "spring" (in fact the whole backspacer) is so rigid and thick, especially when you compare it to, say, the spring in a ball-lock or even the spring of a normal backlock, that I would take a guess and say: it is next to impossible to weaken or wear out the knife considerably. The only thing that may happen is to "polish" the metal surfaces of the knife where the blade tang ("cam"?) and the backspacer "rub" against each other. This may lead to a smoother action, just like Tricod stated. But that's basically all you sould expect.

Here's a pic of an opened DPK to show the strength of the backspacer:

I carry mine all the time as well and it does get used several times a day on an average. I've had mine since about May - like Tricord, mine loosened up just a smidge for break in, but it hasn't changed since.

Yes. After two years of EDC Rotation my DKPK locks up as sturdy as when I first got it, after a just a "smidge" of break in.

Had a UKPK when they came out (black one). It's my EDC, even for cardboard.
It's still going strong, the only thing you can notice are some scratches on the blade (quite normal IMHO) and the G10 is a tad smoother.

Recommended (or however you spell that) !!

Cheers,

JaM
