Spyderco Damascus: Mule or Folder?
Spyderco Damascus: Mule or Folder?
On another thread, Sal asked someone to post a poll; if :spyder: makes a Damascus knife, should it be a Mule or a folder?

I'm an admirer of Spyderco's designs. Using them is like immersing yourself in music or studying a painting in a museum. I buy some "fine" art but my preference is for usable art.
I have no interest in Damascus Mule. Folder can be interesting, all depends on overall design and kind of Damascus. I think that Kopa/Caly3 (bolstered, micarta, bone, wood)/ any Persian can be very interesting or really wild dream, like Shabaria, Damascus with light micarta or bone.

Photoshop rampage!
Here's a quick mock-up of what a Damascus Persian might look like. I couldn't find a decent resolution picture of the Damascus patterns that I really like, so I had to incorporate a somewhat generic pattern in. I don't know if different patterns make a difference in blade quality, but assuming they can all be made into good blades, I'd take one or two Persians with Damasteel's Odin's Eye, Hakkapella, or Grosse Rosen for sure!

I'm interested but I can't say yes or no, it depends on the damascus and on the folder :o

If it's anything other than a front lock with a good 50/50 choil, no Boye dent, and a PE blade, the idea of buying it, much less paying extra for damascus, is unappealing to me. Even within that limited group of knives pattern would either make it more, or less desirable. Random patterns like the Zowada Worker don't really appeal to me. Damasteel Hakkapelitta, Odin's Eye, Rose, and Infinity, I'd jump at. Same with Devin Thomas' Raindrop and Fireball.

The first one that really strikes at me
SPYDERCO JOT
Timeless design by JOT SINGH KHALSA and I think it would look wicked with damascus.
Secondly maybe a cost effective one could be the native with SS handles. Not sure though on pricing for Damascus.
take care eh
