Biggest regret on passing up

#1

Post by bh49 »

I found "What Spyderco's have you stolen?" thread to be very entertaining. All of us had good deals, we love to remember, hopefully will have many more. But sometimes we are missing opportunities, which we regret later

So what are (can be more than one) your biggest regrets.
I will start:
All NIB
Lum Tanto $120 only six month ago on knife show, :o
Dodo Blue PE $65 two years ago on wildealz, :o
C83 Persian for $62, Black or Blue Dodo SE $50 two years ago on Sierra, :o
Ronin $75 on Spyderco.com :o
There were more, but not that bad

What about you? Come on, it will be fan.

My biggest regret is not keeping 3 Grey Calypso Jr.'s in VG-10. :( I should have never let those babies go.

My biggest regret was one of bh49's regrets, the Dodo from wildealz.com for $65.
I must have looked at that knife a dozen times and I never bought it. Ugh! :(

Cheers,
Mike

My biggest regret is that I will be on call this weekend so I can't drive for seven hours to spend money I don't have for knives I don't need at the factory sale. ;) :D

*Sigh*

About a year ago at a local gun-n-knife show a dealer had a NIB Terzoula (not the Starmate) hiding in a back bin for about $50. I passed on it, then went back the next day to try and score it and it was long gone. Also had a chance to pick up a Q at a sporting goods store for $20 bucks on clearance (the store was closing down and this has been some years ago) and I passed on that one as well. If only I knew then what I knew now... :o

Where do I start?

Only started this 'hobby' a couple of years ago and there have been quite a few. Dodo, Persian, Jot Singh, Civilian, Kopa, Yoyo, all for under $100 at some point or another either on eBay or BF or elsewhere. Usually I miss out due to sleep (different time zones from most of the USA sux for bidding :p ), and some due to drought of funds after I had just spent it on another Kopa etc. :D

Great thread and good complement to the other one (What Spyderco's have you stolen)
Cheers

Not placing my yearly order a few months ago when I should have - whilst the local currency was high!

I blame the Phoenix damnit - I was waiting on it to be released - thought I may as well include it in the batch - and then the Aussie dollar tanked, nearly doubling the cost of a spydie to me.

..still haven't ordered this year yet *grumble*
..**** that Phoenix *grumble*

This year's order is meant to include:
- Phoenix
- Mini Persian
- D'allara drop point CE
- Harpy
- Sharpmaker

My one and only (so far) has been not picking up a second or even third FG D2 Military for $108.00.
I prefer to ask for forgiveness rather than permission.

1) Not getting a Ronin.

2) Saw a nice old G10 Police at a show either this year or last. It was only $60 or so. Not sure why I passed on it. The release of the Police 3 mitigates this somewhat, but the old one would have made a nice user.

3) Got offered a Mini Manix on a trade once. I didn't take it and really wish I had. Whatever I took instead in return only lasted a few months before I moved it.

My regret was passing up a Q cut with the Coors logo for $80. At the time I was just beginning my Spyderco collecting and I didn't know any better. I was buying a dealer acrylic case off of a guy that had worked at Spyderco and helped come up with the "all god's creatures have knives" ad campaign. He had quite a few prototypes and other knives he was selling at the time to thin his collection. His story behind the Coors Q was Spyderco made quite a few variants and they made this knife and took it to Coors. Coors looked over the knife and said it was very cool but to have all the one made destroyed. Don't know how accurate that story is but I did check with Sal at one point and verified this guy did work for them in marketing.

At any rate, that was the one I regret loosing

My 2 biggest regrets for Spyders that I passed up at the time thinking that both of them were a bit pricey but now I realize that I should have got them. One was a Cranberry colored Chinese Lum on Ebay BIN for $275 and the other was to get an extra C-44 big Dyad a while back for a scant $140.

It truly makes me sick when I think of both opportunities I passed up on.
