I'm very impressed ... Where did you come by this one?

G. Sakai is one of about a half a dozen very reputable Japanese knife makers that have contracted with and made certain knives for Spyderco. I have a 1997 Spyderco dealer's catalog with an entire line of G. Sakai cutlery and it is very impressive even by today's standards.

I can assure you that anything made by G-Sakai is top quality cutlery. I have also heard that G. Sakai still makes some of the older, discontinued Spyderco models like the Stainless Rescue and a few other select models.

I concur. I rotate a G Sakai folder in with my Spydies for EDC. I also have a G Sakai sommelier's tool. They, much like Spyderco, represent excellent quality at their price point. They're based in Seki city, of course.

Anyone know G. Sakai's Spyderco website? I can find their website, but no Spydero'c are on it.

I believe they are called the "Archistrials" designed by Haneda and built by G.Sakai. Excellen quality.

We had them in ATS-34 and AUS-6.

If this is the G. Sakai page you're going to, just click the Spyderco button in the left margin.

I really want one of these,found one on Ebay a while back but was outbid.I have not seen another one.

I've stumbled across that site before hector and was very impressed but they still don't have the clip point in ray skin

Thanks but 240.00 is a little high for me.
I was out bid on ebay for around 80.00.

While searching, came across this old thread. Just want to post a few pics of my old knife.

I was told that the Archistrial knives line was designed by Hisatsugu Haneda back in 1988.
I've bought it in 1989, if I recalled correctly. There were a couple of designs but I chose this.



The thumb raise is distinctive with jimping throughout the top of the blade. The thick spine tapers
towards the tip. Jimping on the bottom grove makes working with fine cuts a breeze and controllable.
Looking at the jimpings reminds me of some models of the Spyderco knives.





Mirror-finished blade makes taking photo of the blade difficult (for an amateur like me).

Hi Shahrial,

Nice pics and nice knife. Thanx much for the memory trip. Spyderco was at one time the importer of G.Sakai brand. Haneda's primary area of design was fly fishinbg rods, for which he is famous in Japan. the Archistrials were an entire line of knives he created and G.Sakai built. I still have some around.

Hey guys,
Here's one that I bought years ago.



This one has what I think is called a clutch lock.
You have to push the thumb stud out towards the tip of the knife to unlock the blade.
