Opening knives using centrifugal force

More pronounced wear on the back of the blade and the lockback, but no big deal. It's just harder on the knife. Could eventually lead to blade play, but that happens after a while anyways if you're a hard user

All my Spydies are opened thru inertia, yes some of what has been mentioned could happen...but it has never been my experience in 20+years of using spydercos....they are that good....so I wouldn't worry about it..have fun...Doc :D

I do it almost all the time (when people aren't around to think I am nuts !!!) and no harm on the knives. Steel is a lot harder than you or I. Go ahead snap away :D

I think it's more of a gravity knife-style "flick." It could be either downward (spyderdrop-ish) or outward (gravity knife-style). I've seen my uncle do it to my Ti-Lite before, but I couldn't reproduce it (nor do I really want to). I don't recommend it on liner lock knives. It's really a rough, harsh move.

I open my spyderhawk that way. I snap my wrist down thewn about a million miles (or feels that way) out to my right. I got a water bottle to pop right in half using a big slash after. Took less than second to draw and cut that way :D

My friend and I both bought SS Enduras at the same time,and he flicks his open all the time,and I have to admit it is way loose for a 1 month old knife.I don't really see the point in it , unless it is warranted. :)

maybe they aren't made to clack that hard that way - but if that's so they sure do a good job for something they aren't designed to do.

In fact, the only times I would open mine any other way is in the presence of those whom might be offended at such an action and sound, or any authorities that might be enquiring as to what the thing might be - a nice, gentle, two handed opening for such occasions.

I flick a lot and like it. Better as autos related to maintain with less care /cleaning..

One persons flick is not neccessarily the same as another persons flick.

I doubt normal flicking will cause undue harm to a Spyderco knife. The lockbacks are tough.

This is really easy to accomplish with a comp lock, it's about my favorite way to open up my salsa, and it works well with the dodo too.

I have yet to see damage from my flick openings, but I don't swing very hard.

Just a side note here: Inertia opening is a good skill to acquire, specially if we are talking SD. While there is nothing wrong with using the Spyderco Knife Hole as intended (to open your knife), unless you practice it (like any other skill) in a situation which requires you to take defensive action quickly, using the hole or even the Spyderdrop technique is a fine motor skill. When an individual is under pressure to secure a defensive weapon, there is a tendency to lose fine motor skills under stress. Countless times in my classes students while under a simulated aggressive attack, most of the time cannot even access a folding knife let alone open it using the device intended to do so. So many times the knife just goes flying off into thin air. This is where a fixed blade knife really shines. Nothing to open, draw and use as required. No matter how much you practice using the Spyder Hole, No matter how much you practice drawing your folder from a concealed carry position, while under stress, the tasks of deploying your folding knife gets harder and harder. Even if you create space between you and your opponent with empty hand skills giving you the opportunity to access your defensive tool, using the spyder hole to ready your knife for action, might become an impossible task. On the other hand an Inertia opening is a gross motor skill, it is fast and reliable if you choose to put in the practice time. Sure If I'm breaking down cardboard boxes, cutting threads off my clothing or doing everyday chores with my knife or I am in the presence of others I use the spyder hole to open it. Though I do carry folders for their ease of concealment, if put in a situation where I need to access my knife quickly for defensive purposes I always find myself reaching for my fixed blades. If you carry a folder for SD my advice to you would be to practice the inertia opening. I know a lot of people out there might disagree with my logic here and say to themselves...I have been opening my spyderco using the hole for years and I can do it very quickly, and I'm assured that I would be able to do so if someone violently attacked me. I would say to them: Have you ever tried it in a defensive situation while under extreme stress? If your answer is no, then have a friend or training partner simulate a violent attack directed at you (mind you do it safely, you might consider using a trainer for this exercise) and see for yourself what the results would be....try it a few times....after the experience I think you will come around to my way of thinking about inertia openings vs spyderhole openings...you might even begin to think it's better to carry one of the fine fixed blades made by spyderco for defensive purposes in addition to your folder....Be safe...Doc :D

We tend to get nervous when people assault us... Especially if not expected.... I rather take a ronin, streetbeat , fb04 or clb mpt in the small of back next to regular edc folder to be safe. :D
