What do you use your crickets for?

#1

Post by tigerose123 »

Hey guys,
So I couldn't find a thread like this, so I thought I would start one. Just curious to see what jobs people do with their crickets. I personally find its great for removing tags off of boxes (at the store I work at we have to take the price sticker off the product when we sell it). But yeah. :spyder: :spyder: :spyder:

:D So far I only use my Cricket to keep it's box and my knife drawer full. I also use it to admire. It's one of a few knives I will never get rid of.

Mostly to open stuff (letters, packages, clam shells). I also use the Cricket to carefully remove product labels required for rebates from boxes while leaving the box intact. The fine point allows me to free the label and peel it free from the box.

Great office EDC
Does a better job than scissors in many cases and is so way cooler that I lack the vernacular to describe...
...I have the CF SE one in ATS55 - it just looks awesome.

I bought one for my wife two years ago and its a last ditch SD tool. The shape of the blade does some mean cutting. Not the ideal situation I know, but a whole lot better than nothing.

boxes and clam packs go quickly with the serrated cricket. Just get it started, sink in to the first scallop and pull.

Carry it right/rear, just reach back and drop it open in the same motion. Usually folks won't even see it until I'm 1/2 way done and the package in my hand is suddenly open. If you only need the first scallop for a bag, the rest of it palms easily.

Aha! That's exactly what I was thinking about using a Cricket for - a tie clip! Is it too bulky though? Does it feel really heavy compared to a regular tie clip?

I've got both the mini-police tie clip and a silver one, and had used my ss 'fly before I got either of the actual tie clips. You don't really notice the weight there.

Another spot you can hide the cricket in plain sight is clipped under your collar (white shirt, the silver clip doesn't show much).

*Bump*

I'm thinking of getting one of the Santa Fe Stoneworks Yin/Yang Crickets to use as a tie clip. I searched but I can't find the exact weight and thickness with the added scales. Does anyone know? Does anyone actually use their Yin/Yang Cricket as a tie clip? Would the version be too heavy/bulky as a tie clip? I think it would look pretty sweet if it isn't too big. :)

My Dear Friends,

I carry the Spyderco stainless Cricket PE every single day without fail in the watch pocket of my jeans, and I use it for pretty much all of the everyday cutting that I do. I also carry a karambit for SD purposes, but always the Cricket for normal cutting. The Cricket is one of the most useful little blades I have ever encountered.

My etched cricket PE serves double duty.

I use it daily to to cut/open everything I once whipped out my endura, military or paramilitary to cut. Now my big blades stay unnoticed riding IWB while the cricket does most chores. For some reason, people just don't flinch when you pull out the cricket.

I also clip the cricket in my kids pockets when we go fishing, hiking or doing yard work. The smiles on their faces is priceless when I help them open up and use "their" knives to cut a snagged line.
