Guys, got a Perrin Street Beat (love it, man oh man, great little FB)!
But this was in it (it's just black plastic with Spyder logo, but I can't figure it out):

Looks like it's the ring that actually should be at the tip of the blade to prevent puncturing through the packaging.

Really? That much detail (spyder and all) for a tip protector!!! Hats off to you guys. There was a cardboard sleeve and bubble wrap but the plastic thing was just rolling around.
Thanks for the info! Mystery solved.

Wow, that is a cool tip protector thing. I mean they could have just put some goofy cardboard or something on there but that's pretty cool.
The coolest part is that it's round just like all the holes. :D
Is it made of metal or plastic or what?

I also found one of these on my 52100 Mule factory second. Interesting to see one on another knife model. It seemed to me a response to threads showing the first Mule run poking through boxes during shipping, as they had no tip protection, if I remember correctly. Anybody know if they in use before that? Just curious...

Hey Sal, speaking of kitchen knives, do you have any more hints on the H1 ones you mentioned earlier? :)

Dang, gotta get my hands on one of those. :D
If they've been around for a while, I'm surprised none have turned up on eBay yet as "rare" Spyderco pendants.

We began using them more when we began packaging the knives in the open position in a "see through" package. We realize that many companies package their knives in the open position, but we felt that our knives were a little sharper and needed the added protection for customer safety.
The trend now is to show knives clammed and hung on a board. We created new packaging to accomodate the dealers needs. It's all recycle stuff.

Sal, can you make Spyderco rings and pendants please. They will sell like hotcakes methinks.
Very true on Spydies being that bit sharper than the rest. I haven't seen another production blade as sharp OOTB than Spydies.... gotta lurve that !
