My first Spydie
Well after much thought and deliberation, I decided on the Salt I for my first Spyderco knife. I've had the knife for about 2 weeks now and love it. I removed the clip and am carrying it around in my purse. I've not found many opportunities to use it yet, but the few times I have, it's been fun! :p I've practiced opening and closing it with one hand, and trying to look cool in the process...guess that take practice :D
Thanks for the suggestions and comments in my previous post. I think I'd like to get a dragonfly next :)

I abuse my Salt I, and I love it ! My Salt I loves it as well, it just begs to be abused, and yet it comes back for more and more ! The H1 steel is amazing and can take anything.
Cheers

I like the way the serrated looks :D ....what are your suggestions for keeping it sharp and how do you know when it's that time.....experience? you just know?

The 204 Sharpmaker and it's accompanying DVD is the best tool for finishing an edge, reprofiling takes something more aggressive, but you shouldn't have to worry about that.
As far as to when to sharpen. The short answer - When you feel it is not cutting as well as you think it should.
The long answer - this may not be the place to ask, as most of us feel the need way before it is actually "dull". But, the longer you let it go, the harder it is to bring back, but still no problem with the 204.

First off,it will stay sharper much longer than a plainedge Salt.Spyderguyl wrote:Serrated......

i usually test my serrated Salt1 on some plastic clingwrap for sharpness. if the teeth snag,in between serrations on the plastic wrap a bit, sharpening is in order.
there are serrated blade pocket sharpeners, that are made for Spyderco serrations that work well,BUT investing in a Spyderco sharpmaker system is your BEST bet. Enjoi your knife,it makes life that much easier.

Good choice for a first knife. I agree with some of the other folks here about the Delica 4. If you like the Salt 1 you would really like the D4. The Dragonfly is really nice too.
Welcome to the forum. Nice start.

Welcome. You need a sharpmaker to maintain the serrated edge properly. A dragonfly would be a nice second spydie for you and is a bit smaller and less threatening to the NKPs (non-knife people). Its one of my favorites. :)
So many knives, so few pockets... :)
