My Ink/Tattoos

#1

Post by raven »

Hi All, Just want to share a bit. I've had various members here ask about my tattoos. I posted some pix quite a while back. I know some of the new members have been asking to show my tattoos ... So, here ya go ;) .

The first is a piece My Brother did for me ... well he did all my tats (He is a very talented tattoo artist). Anyway it's a "Phoenix", which symbolizes my Native American Heritage of The Cherokee. The Tribal Flames also symbolize The Cherokee, because they were referred to as "The Red Men of Fire" (which was also a title of a book about the cherokee people). The back of my forearm is a "Tribal Dragon" which symbolizes FREEDOM To Do Whatever It Is I Choose To Do In Life.

I have serveral other tats (I don't have pix of ... sorry :o )... One on the right shoulder, which is a clan mark, A RAVEN on the left shoulder (of course ;) ), a hawk's head on a buffalo skull with feathers on the inside left forearm, and a Dragon coming off of a bike sprocket with "BMX" in the center on the side of my right calf.

Back to the flames real quick ... they're not complete. They're going to extend all the way up my arm to my trapezius :p . These are as addicting as Spydercos ... Believe Me  :D . Thanks for listening and just thought I'd share. Take Good Care All and Be Safe Always.

God Bless :)

Hey Monocrom, Thanks for the compliments on th tats. That S&W is a beater knife I picked up to dig through debris during Arson Investigations. I didn't feel real comfortable bagging up a good spydie for that type of use. There are many times I have to cut a chunk out of debris ... mostly rafters to see the depth of char. That tells how hot the fire was in a specific area and how long it burned. I needed something I didn't mind tearing up ;) . Take Good Care and Be Safe Knifebro.

God Bless :)

hey raven, very cool tats, and I like the way you talk about what they each mean. you mention the Raven is a clan symbol, just curious if that was also a Native American symbolism?

Hey Knifesis, The Raven I have on my left shoulder is, because of my nickname and being half Cherokee. The tat on my right shoulder is a hawk's head in a medicine wheel, which symbolizes the "Bird Clan". A lot of our family history has been lost throughout the years. We're still tracing a lot of our ansestry and family history, which is very interesting ;) . Hope this helps some. Take Good Care and Be Safe Always.

God Bless :)

cool tats...i bet they raise some eyebrows on some of your calls :D ...i only have one...then i made it bigger by putting a maltese around it..and now i want to put flames over that but i promised the wife no more... :( i have a question for you. some people say they love the actual process of getting inked..... i hated it. it felt like somebody was using a wood carving tool and digging out my flesh with it (i was big into woodworking at the time, hence the visual...lol) do you like the act or the results or both?

ps...glad to see you are healing up quickly :)

Hey Tony, Thank you for the compliments ... Yeah, the tats get a lot of attention on calls. Everyone always refers to me as ... "That Cop With All The Tattoos" :o . So, my Sheriff and Under Sheriff always know who they're talking about.

Some folks can't stand the pain of getting a tattoo. I always thought that being able to handle the pain was part of getting a tat. I have a high tolerance to pain, so it doesn't really bother me. When my Brother put the Dragon on the back of my forearm, I read a book while he did it. Never flinched a one time, I never really felt it ... I don't know why???

I know some of the tattoo places carry a spray that numbs the skin while getting a tat. I know a lot of women that request it while being tatted. I know some men that also request it, depending on the location of the tat. Requesting that spray doesn't mean your a wimp or anything ... I think it's smart and a good idea. ONE THING FOR SURE ... TRY NOT TO GET ONE ON AN AREA WHERE THERE IS BONE   ... YOU'LL UNDERSTAND A WHOLE DIFFERENT MEANING OF PAIN. Take Good Care and Be Safe Always.

God Bless :)

My Dear Friends,

My latest tattoo (a Chinese/Tribal Dragon) is in process and should be finished up later this week. A couple of weeks back the outline was completed; it was two hours of intense entertainment. :D

The fill-in should be a bit less uncomfortable (I hope). It should happen Friday of this week.

I'll post pics as soon as it's finished.

I almost hesitate to ask this, but do any of you who have had tattoos worry about getting stuff like hepatitis from possibly unsterilized needles? I used to really want to get a tatt but I don't trust anyone outside of the medical profession to use needles on my skin.

Ok here's another question. What if you were allergic to the dye and didn't know it until after the tattoo? Another reason I haven't gotten one.

And the last question...usually fear of pain is not a factor for me...and I have no problem w/the needles part...but electrified needles...that must hurt like ****!!

Not meaning to be a party pooper, just asking out of insatiable curiosity...if necessary I can move this post... :D

The tribal work guys, good stuff.

I have 3. Two are tribal (one a dragon on the back, the other just a design on the arm). I also have a barbed wire arm band... Hey it was a 90's thing... :D

As for pain... Can't say it bothered me. A couple of times, it does build and feels like some kind of "chill" up your spine. Actually, the back hurt the most. Also, if you get an all black tattoo, keep in mind, it seems to take more time to make sure it is all filled in... At least that is what it seemed like to me.

Now for pain...

I had a tattoo removed. NOT FUN!!! Imagine being shot with a rubber band in the arm, 250 times. Then about 8 hours later if feels like someone has pressed a hot iron to your arm... Oh, and you will have to do this 4-5 times, and a couple hundred dollars a pop...

Also... I have had two nipple piercings. Hurts when you do it, actually the clamp they use hurts more than the piercing. Then you get the "rush" of endorphins. It is cool, you feel no pain... For an hour or two. THEN... Let me tell you, once that wears off, it feels like someone shot you in the chest with an arrow.

Got rid of them... ground fighting and body piercings... They DO NOT mix... :D
