Whats the best way to care for a knife in a salt water environment
I know I should go with a H1 salt. However the current offerings are a little to large for what I want to carry with me in the water.
I normally carry a ladybug or a dragonfly and they hold fairly well but do get some surface rust at the end of the day. I wash them off with fresh water and wipe them clean. I also use never dull in cases where the rust does not rub off easily.
Anyone have some additional tips for me in caring for these knives when used in salt water.

We're working on a new dragonfly design. Should be out in G-10 first. Then new tooling will be made for FRN. Then a Dfly in H1 will be considered.Blackhair wrote:The H1 Ladybug excites me greatly; as my Ladybug gets to be in pretty bad shape from being in my pocket all day long.
Now all we need is a Cricket/Dragonfly-sized Salt knife, and we'll be set.
The real question is, Sal, will the Saltbug be available in Spyderedge? :D
The H1 Ladybug should be availabe in PE & SE as well as black and yellow.

Thorough fresh water rinses as soon as possible after exposure. A light coating of oil on the blade and pivot will help as well.dd61999 wrote:While I wait for the H1 ladybug

They do make these as well: Marine Tuf Cloth - though I've never personally used them and can't vouch for how well they will actually work.

Sweet. I hope we finally have jimping on the D'fly II. I really love the D'fly for it's lightweight. I hope that a G-10 version will be unlined to keep it that way. A wire clip would be welcome as well...sal wrote:We're working on a new dragonfly design. Should be out in G-10 first. Then new tooling will be made for FRN. Then a Dfly in H1 will be considered.

Sounds like you are doing the right things. Rinse them clean as soon as possible. I would also use a high quality lube to prevent rust at the pivots.dd61999 wrote: I normally carry a ladybug or a dragonfly and they hold fairly well but do get some surface rust at the end of the day. Consider a Salt 1, really not that much bigger than a dragonfly.

I so very much hope this will not go the same way as the G10 Delica. Plain edge first to see if it catches onsal wrote:We're working on a new dragonfly design. Should be out in G-10 first. Then new tooling will be made for FRN.

Sounds great, Sal! :D
I agree with Spydutch that an SE Dragonfly would be excellent. LBK's and Spyderedges just belong together.
Back from an extended hiatus.
I've been waiting for a H1 Ladybug for yonks !!!
Thanks again Big Sal :D the bombs keep coming, I don't think we'll be able to survive this barrage of ecstasy :p
I would like to see some different FRN colours to go with the H1 hardware. Let's wait and see what Sal conjures up. Whatever it is I'm sure it'll be magic. H1 Ladybug .... yeehah ! I can imagine a paracord tied Saltybug on the swimmers when at the beach....or one tucked dangerously in the budgie smugglers :p

H1 ladybug sounds like a great idea...!!! H1 dragonfly, a dream come true!!!
best way to care for a knife in a saltwater environment is to get a knife in H1 and not worry about it at all. up here in ketchikan, anything other than H1 ends up having lots of problems.
otherwise, you can rinse with fresh water, clean, dry, and be right on top of the rust spots as soon as they develop... eeeeevery day...
