Where are the REAL lefties....

#1

Post by psimonl »

Ok, I am a righty....

But tonight I had to use my SE E4 with my left hand and noticed that SE was always cutted out for righties......

And I thought about those poor lefties who won't ever experienced the inside cuttings of the SE edge.....

They do have access to left clips. but the SE blade's cutaways are always on the same side...

What do you think????

As a lefty, we get screwed. But have also learned to hunt down certian ones that have the serrations on the other side. Like the CF Police Lefty. But they are rare...

Lefty Serrations

#3

Post by GeorgeMaggos »

The way I understand it as it has been told to me if a Spyderco knife is serrated from the factory & if it was made for a left handed configuration only then the serrations are on the correct side for lefties yes but if it was not made specifically for left handers then it is right hand serrated switching the clip to the left hand side will only switch the clip the knife will not be set up leffty for cutting.

I think it's the other way around. The serrations are laid out the way they are "for show, not for go" just like the chisel grinds on some US knives. They look nicer that way to righties, but actually work better for us southpaws. Look at Japanese chisel ground knives. Do you really think the majority of Japanese chefs and carpenters are left handed? In fact, look at this ad for Korin kitchen knives and note the grind of their "left handed" version. :D

In fairness, it really only matters when you're trying to take nice thin slices off something, like a London broil, or a slab of smoked salmon. For cutting rope and similar tasks, it doesn't make one bit of difference which side the serrations are on. For peeling and apple, then yes, they're on the wrong side, but using a serrated blade for that is just plain wrong to begin with. ;) :D

lefty

found a nice lefty police. I too am a southpaw and find myself buying plain edged knives so I can just reverse the clip and it looks right. Somehow I really get peeved when I try to switch the pocket clip on spyderco serrated models and the serrations are on the wrong side. who cares if its functional
it just doesn't look right without the serrations on the "correct" side.
I don't know whether you can get custom orders for lefty's but I know that some police officers prefer having knives on the support side (left) since most officers are righties and carry their weapons on the right side.

Hi Simon!!! I'm fairly ambi, but am very lefty for cutting - I haven't really had an issue with the cutting piece. Not being able to swap out clips, though, is a little annoying, for me :)
