UKPK Opening Notches

#1

Post by McBain »

Hey everyone, I just got an orange UKPK, it's absolutely awesome!!! It is also my first UKPK, and I was wondering what the purpose of the second "Notch?" is for while opening it. I'm talking about when the blade is about 1/2 way open, there's a notch. Is this for safety reasons, so that the blade has another point of resistance before it would close on a finger?? Or something else?? thanx!!!

I'm pretty sure it is for safety so you don't close it on your finger. I don't have one though so I'm not sure.

Finger protection/ digital protection ! :D

I open my UKPK with one hand, but close with two, but the notch is there just in case people get careless or lazy.... last thing you need is to lose your tool handling devices.

It is called a half-stop. They've been using them on some slip joints for a hundred years or so. And yes, it is there so that if you do happen to catch the spine of the blade on something and start to close it, it will stop half-way instead of snapping all the way shut on your fingers.
I don't believe in safe queens, only in pre-need replacements.
