I can't decide. The Delica has the better blade steel and is lighter (I like FRN for being lightweight), while the Crow is slightly smaller overall (which isn't undesirable), has a finger choil on the blade (which I really like), and is less expensive.


Does anyone have any pics of the Delica or the Crow in hand, and also clipped in pocket? The one that rides lower in the pocket might be the one I'll get.

I don't have any pics, but I have handled a Crow. It's a good knife for the money. All the byrds are a great value. That said, if I had a choice the Delica 4 would be the one.

Like you said better blade steel and high impact resistant FRN. The Crow is awesome, I would personally go with the Delica 4. :D

I have an E4 digital camo frn handel combo edge that i conseder my weekend knife its big and nice and i love it. But when i work i carrie my FRN OR g10 handel Byrd Robyns there cheep and light and good mid sized knifes also combo edges. I love the finger choil for more control and will never buy another knife without it. And i think you can get the crow in a g10 handel. After my sharp maker that crow will be my next purchase. Good luck you cant go wrong.

The Crow displays roughly seven eights of an inch above the pocket line, which I like because it is easier to pull from my pocket. I don't own a Delica or an Endura (true story) because I find that for me, a choil is mandatory in most cases. There are of course exceptions.

I can't speak of the Delica, but I can say that the Crow would be a good deal at twice it's current retail.

For me the FRN handle is a must in a work knife, despite how much I love G10 and carbon fiber. My Endura 4 FRN is my work knife and it has taken abuse the likes of nothing most people could ever imagine and despite some knicks on the clip it looks like new. I use the handle to break things open probably even more than I use the blade which is saying something with as much as I use the knife.Aluminum handles can scratch up or dent up simply because it's metal and no matter how good the finish is a scratch on a metal handle shows up. With FRN on the other hand, I've been unable to put a dent in it and even if it scratches it won't show up. I've tried out the crow and for me the handle just doesn't feel right. It's not bad by any means but I don't like the texture compared to G10 or an FRN handle. If the crow feels good in your hands I say go for the G10 handle and I'd also take a look at the G10 Raven. The FRN delica is my top pick for you but in the end you should just go with what's comfortable and in your price range, since they're all made by spyderco you can't really go wrong either way.

Dude,go for the D4. its a GREAT knife,you will love the bladesteel and overall design is beautiful.
Its tough,the D4 handle is nice and thin,you wont feel the weight when edc'ng this one.
YOU WONT be dissapointed.

But also, You should think; Do you want a Liner lock, or a Back Lock.
The Crow has a Liner Lock, while the Delica has a Back Lock.

I personally like the Back lock.
Some people say its hard to close. I don't think this is true, It just takes some getting used to. But, I will say that a Liner lock is considerably easier (almost too easy) to close.

And there are a thousand and one arguments why you should go with Spyderco Brand, over the Byrd Brand. But they are probly both great knives.... So it comes down to preference

I see that you have a Native as your Avatar... Do you have a Native ?.... cause it sounds like you might be interested in one... Good or Great Steel, FRN Handle, Lo-Profile Clip (on the 3) Finger Choil..... You might want to look into either a Native or a Native 3

Hi cosine, Welcome - Both knives are great knives. Technically they differ in many aspects. Blade and handle materials as well as the locks - backlock vs linerlock.

When making up your mind please be aware that the latest version of the Crow with G-10 scales has just been released. You will see it being introduced on by the different dealers as we speak.

Just as with the G-10 versions of the Cara Cara/Meadowlark and Robin, this new version of the Crow will blow you away or better it will pull you over.

The G-10 does wonders for this knife. Before you buy, please check out the G-10 Crow!

I know I did. :rolleyes: My FG Delica 4 just arrived today, and it's sitting right next to the Native I got a couple of weeks ago (which seemed enough at the time, but now I just want more).

I haven't tried the Byrd, but the Delica is a beauty. I'd recommend the D4. :)

Out of curiosity have you also considered the tenacious? The only thing you might run into is that it's bigger than either the crow or the delica but still for the price I think it's definitely worth a look. The msrp on the tenacious is a bit more than the crow but it's less than the delica and if you prefer liner locks the tenacious has one like the crow.

Well, I went and handled and number of knives today, all which in some way fit the bill.

Delica: Not uncomfortable. Even without a finger choil, it felt good in the hand, and carried easily in the pocket. Carried low enough clipped in pocket for me too. And I like lockbacks, slightly better than liner locks.

Dragonfly: I simply cannot open it with one hand, It's too small.

And just for kicks, Mini Grip: Handle was too small, very uncomfortable, and too wide. I liked the slim Delica in my pocket, not the thicker Mini Grip handle.

Yes, I have a Native... which I love, but I need a blade under 3". Hence why the Tenacious doesn't fit the bill, as Arcanus suggested.

I've decided on a Delica. So, now comes the difficulty of choosing a Delica. Which one:

Standard FRN with PE blade
White sprint run FRN Delica
Waved Delica with PE blade

Right now I'm leaning towards the white Delica, simply because it's a sprint run, but I'm not sure how I'll like the CE blade. I tend to leans towards either SE or PE camp, and as I have a SE knife (Native) I'd be interested in a PE blade. But, if you guys can convince me that CE isn't that bad, and that I'll enjoy having a sprint run Spyderco, I might get that one.

The fully serrated Delica 4 is a true cutting demon :cool:

I've had the Delica CE, the Delica PE, and the wave Delica PE. The only one I was somewhat unhappy with was the combo edge, it was a great knife but I prefer a knife that's either fully serrated or plain edge. That one was a delica 2, I think, it ended up being given to a female friend of mine who needed a self defense knife. The wave blade does make the delica more of a self defense option and I've noticed the blade on the wave delica seems pointier to me than the reinforced tip on the standard Delica 4. For me I find the regular delica more useful overall than the wave blade but it's probably just the fact that I'm not as used to the wave blade. It would be really cool if you could find a ZDP 189 delica :p but that would definitely bump up the price. The white handle sprint run delica would be an awesome knife to have for your collection, I know I'm eagerly awaiting my next paycheck so I can afford to consider getting either a white handle delica or endura for mine. Ah so many knives so little time lol.

Glad you settled on the delica, no syderco nut's collection should be without at least one.
