New EDC - Sage possibly HELP!

#1

Post by adammg »

I've been looking through the new line-up of knives, been awhile since I've had a Spydie in my pocket.

Can anyone tell me the thickness of the blade on the Sage?
Is it thicker than the Delica or Caly3?

I am limiting myself to under a $100 ... an really digging the flat grind with the liner at a size right above the Delica but smaller than the Endura.

My Sage measures 0.117" thick at the tang, ZDP D4 measures 0.094" at the tang. I guess that makes the Sage a bit thicker, but that story changes about halfway down the blade, where the sabe grind Delica is thicker than the flat ground Sage.
I don't believe in safe queens, only in pre-need replacements.

Sage has the same thickness as Caly3 and Endura, 3mm, and the full flat grind make it an amazing slicer :p

Thanks guys, Could someone post a pic of say the Endura or Delica and Sage spines together? Not plannin on prying or anything but occassionally might use it outside in the garden (Yes I have to help g/f plant flowers, Wanna make something of it? lol j/k) just kind of worried about the tip .... theres times I puncture thin plastic buckets and cut the plant out them.

Can't do the pix but I can tell you that the tip on the Sage is pretty robust. It looks to me like it's a little stronger than the Caly 3 tip because the blade is wider and the top-to-bottom angle at the tip is a little wider. My Caly 3 has taken plenty of outdoor work with no problem.

I've also used my small Sebenza in the garden and the tip on that blade is slightly thinner than on my Sage.

I updated the specs on the Sage page, sorry that information was not there earlier...

Good luck with your decision. :)
