Looking for a new workhorse!!

I need a new spydie to run through everyday activities. Something I can beat up on a daily basis and not feel TOO bad about it. Any ideas??

Get a Tenacious or any Salt variety. Both are ideal as beaters - great performers that are cheap and easy to replace! :D

Native for $40 @ walmart. Great piece of S30V steel can take some use and stay sharp for a while. Native has great ergos, and I love finger choil. I use it for more than two years and cannot imagine knife better in this price range.
Made in Golden.

My top choices Natives5, Calys, C83 Persian

what do you consider "beat up"? enough that you wouldn't want to spend much, or just a knife you don't want to baby..?

Native, delica, endura, tenacious, a rescue model, a salt model, or really any byrd would be my picks for knives to use as beaters.

Or look on ebay, and get a used knife - just make sure you have a sharpmaker before going this route. I've gotten nice deals, a used native that needed a sharpening for $20, a used delica III for $30, used snap-it's and a harpy with a broken tip for under $20 each, **** even an original delica with a molded clip and broken tip for $10.50 shipped....

Sure they needed some sharpening, but once they are sharp again, they are still great knives that will do a lot of jobs, and since they are used, you don't gotta worry bout losing em or damaging them....

Fully serrated Endura 4 in stainless. Once you put the first scratch or scuff on it the rest are just character marks.

Spend the money and get a Chinook...you shouldn't ever have to replace that knife, unless you are just downright neglectful :D

Another vote for the Tenacious. Also, check into the Native. A capable knife at an affordable price.

What's your budget?

Some people don't think $120 is too much to spend on a beater knife, while others think $30 is too much for any knife. Where are you on the price scale?
Also "Kaizen1" on BF, "ignoramus" on CPF & EDCF. "kaizenrei" on KF, "Kaizen" on USN.

:spyder: :spyder:  :spyder: :spyder: I would say it depends on what your idea of "cheap" is; I'm one of those who would, and have spent $100 plus on a Spyder, that turned beater, and thought nothin of it :D And besides, I still have my first Spyderco....A Gen'1 Endura/SE with G-2 blades steel, and plastic intrigle clip; Still performs like todays Spyders, and no issues with blade play, retention, and not a spot of rust, or pitting any where; And, ya...it's been every where  But, I would say a D4, E4, Chinook3, or a D'allara; The D'allara is a great knife, and you can get them for alot less than they were, so grab one before you won't be able to :D
