Clips On Older Salt Spydies
I have noticed that the clip on my Salt1 plain, which is one of the older Salt models are steel clips and not titanium like on my newer/latest Salt1,which ive noticed having a definite titanium clip.anyone know the reason for this?

The steel clip on a Pacific Salt I've had for a few years finally started showing some rust where the clip meets the bolt screw.
I emailed Spyderco about it, and they offered to swap it. That was last week; I just got a new titanium clip with bolt screws + a bonus 2008 Catalog and Retail Price Guide in the mail today :)

In actual fact yes,it does feel stiffer on my new Salt1-i dont know the reason for this.awlriteeden wrote:Manixworld, quick question: is the lockbar spring tension of your new Salt I stiffer than the old one you have with the steel clip?
I must say that the lockup on my D3 plain, sounds alot more solid than on both my Salt1 models ,though the Salt1's and D3's are very similar in look and basic construction.no stiff tension on my D3 either.

In the first year or so, when the first Salts were released, Spyderco collected a lot of ELU data on how they performed. A first generation Pacific was for example tested by Frank K on bladeforums, who runs the Spyderco passaround, in a nasty mixture of salt water, chlorine and iodide for several months. The iodide finally caused some corrosion at the washer around the pivot and on the clip, after Frank scratched the finish off the clip on Sal's request (!). The corrosion wasn't bad, but clearly Spyderco's intention was to make a completely corrosion resistant folder, so Sal stated at some point that they improved the finish on the hardware and switched to a Ti clip. If you look at the finish of the clip of any older Spydie, you know that the finish will not last on the clip and Sal said that they had problems finding any other material that is corrosion resistant and still has the right "springyness" required for a clip, so they went with Ti. I have not heard of any reports of corrosion on ANY later generation Salt. A job well done I would say :) .MANIXWORLD wrote:I have noticed that the clip on my Salt1 plain, which is one of the older Salt models are steel clips and not titanium like on my newer/latest Salt1,which ive noticed having a definite titanium clip.anyone know the reason for this?

Aslong as the older Salt's H1 composition,is the same as the Salt's you get now.HoB wrote:In the first year or so, when the first Salts were released, Spyderco collected a lot of ELU data on how they performed.
