Yes, I've got a good old case of new knife high thanks to the new G10 Delica. I'm a sucker for Delicas and colors, so this was a no brainer.

The knife handles quite a bit different than a regular FRN D4. It's heavier and feels narrower in the hand, or more 3D compared to the FRN. The G10 handle with steel liners definitely fill my hand better than its FRN cousins. The shade of foliage green is the same as on the D2 Millie.

Another shot of the handle. This handle upgrade definitely elevates the Delica to a 'serious' field knife to most people. Not that the FRN version is any slacker for 'serious work', but when picking it up, most people will prefer the G10 handle....if they disregard the price tag. :D

Of course, the clip mounts in any position. With the G10 Delica, and being a lefty for the most part, I'm glad I didn't sign up for the FG Rookie. This one suits me much better.

The blade sports a nice edge geometry. This is definitely a contender with the Caly III. With the full taper, the tip is much sharper and pointier than a regular D4. In return, the blade is a lot thinner though. I suspect If I'd install a regular D4 blade in it, this G10 Delica would be the strongest Delica yet (not counting the SS version).

The only thing stopping me from buying this knife is the expense. I just don't like the Delica's shape enough to pay Caly3 prices for it.

If it weren't for the price, I would buy a Delica for my mom and an Endura for my dad in a heartbeat.

I can understand, it's quite a jump from a $40 range for the FRN D4, to a $100 plus jump for the G10 version. Fortunately, the dollar-euro exchange rate is very generous to me right now. :o

It's going to be a tough year anyways, with so many new Spydies announced, baliyo, byrds and the new Surefires that are being unveiled right now. There are a lot of new 'toys' coming out this year.

You mention swapping blades on it, are the standard Delica blades interchangeable with the G10 one? I thought I had heard that there was a slight variation that made this impossible.

I am only thinking of maybe having such a baby in the future and you are already playing with it............
I really shoudn't complain you always take these nice pictures and you're reviews are great.

I haven't tried a real blade swap but I did check the blade thickness and found them to be the same. For now, I'll leave it as is. But there will be a time in the future where I'm bored and waiting for new knives to arrive. Then I might just try it.

looks great Wouter, congrats! :cool: I wonder how the overall thickness of the new Delica is vs. that of the G10 Caly3 (for example w/blade closed) :confused: IIRC the thickness of the Caly3's blade is 3mm and this new G10 Delica blade is 2.5mm thickness...

My measurements, and eyeballing of it show them to be the same thickness. Curious to Wouters comments of the G10 version feeling thinner? Maybe just the extra weight along with the different handle material?

I didn't mean to say that the knife feels thinner. The knife seems narrower in feel, like the handle is not as wide top to bottom, compared to its FRN sibling. The G10 Delica subjectively fills my hand more than the FRN version. I think it's the combination of more steel to the touch (backspacer and liners are steel and exposed) and the added weight.
