Ramonade, forgive me if you've already answered this, but what wood are you using? I like it. :)

It's supposed to be stabilized elder burl ! I love this wood too, I have two other shades of it available ^^
I used to buy them from a guy doing everything by himself alone in Ukraine, but he had to move to get all of his family in safety.

Epoxy is a good choice for filling that gap. In case you haven't tried it, I would also point out that C/A glue works well and will provide a clear and glossy surface when finished. It's best for small gaps and sometimes multiple coats are required. It's hard and can be polished but it's not very impact resistant so it's best for small cracks and crevices. The gap in the edge there might be a little large for CA glue but you can do it if you use tape to create walls to keep the glue from running out. CA glue is also handy because you can spray it with instant hardener and quickly move on to the next step.
Thanks again man ! I did filled the gap with epoxy soon after I posted this, I have "auto-mixing" epoxy.but The thing didn't work properly so I had to use it twice. I had the brilliant idea to do it myself the second time ;)

Not really mine, since I already gifted it to my father. His reaction was priceless, and well worth the effort.
I managed to take a couple pictures before running to him.
This is my first Mule handle, and I consider it my first "official" handle.
Before that I mostly made thin slabs to make a new handle for old herloom knives.

So here it is :

Thanks again to Xplorer for the tips, and you were right, this is a handle I'm proud of !

Thanks all, this means a lot. I can't wait to do mine, and the K390, and the SUS13, and any other mules I can put my hands on
(I'll certainly have to resort to other blanks in the meantime, this is addicting).

Im grateful for all the positive feedbacks guys!
My father immediately wanted a leather sheath. Since I haven't learned how to make them yet, I helped him put an order on the website.
I think I might have converted him instantly, ahah

Hi Robin,

Thanks for the compliment, and for the Mules. I did't think I'd have the occasion to start making what I consider real handles before I would own/make a forge.

Here's a sneak peak of the second one (tons of issues here, but tons of solutions too) :

Here's my second one !
Still on a MagnaCut Mule. There is some imperfections I'll rectify by hand from 320 to 5000 grit. The belt grinder has a tendancy to go really deep on those nickel corbys.

Beautiful work Robin!

The nickel corbys are just a little more wear resistant than the wood, so when you sand it takes extra effort to get the all the scratches out of the corbys. Just be sure to use something hard and flat behind the sandpaper (like a piece of aluminum) when you clean up the corbys so that the wood doesn't wear away too much while you do it.

Congrats on your beautiful new Mule handle!!
