Forum History

I was just reading some old stories on the forums as I ate my supper tonight, and noticed something. One thread (and all the replies) were from 2003, but all the members that posted in it had join dates of September 2004. Did something happen in Sept 2004?

Just curious about the history of this forum, thats all.

IIRC, there was a system crash on the server, and the original join dates were lost. So yes, some folks have been here considerably longer than their join date would lead you to believe. FWIW, there are threads here that go back even further than '03. Easiest way to view the really ancient ones is via the "office friendly" view. The threads there are in order, by posting date. IIRC, someone noted that the first few were lost at some point, but the one listed as #1 is the oldest one that still exists and is dated 5/6/2000.

Weren't the forums updated in 9/04 causing the join dates to reset? Most of the members you see posting on here with a join date of 9/04 have actually been on here quite a bit longer.

Think you're both right, but IIRC, it was some kind of a database glitch/crash/hiccup/malfunction/anomaly during that upgrade which caused the loss of everyone's original start date. Or, to put it another way, don't think it was either intentional or expected. I could be wrong though, wouldn't be the first time and probably not the last.

I know how you feel Butch, but some of us have long memories. I've been here myself from the beginning in 2000 as well. I'll probably stick around here some more.
