zdp stretch !!

#1

Post by rnr »

I had reason to drive by the Spydie store yesterday and had some time before my appointment so I dropped in. Just an unplanned thing, right????

I asked to see a stretch, and low and behold, they'd just put out the first of the zdp189/CF new ones. Had to get one. Sal did a bang up job with these, too nice. I took the clip off, but here it is......

other side.

So did I get the first one??? :-)

That is one nice looking knife! :D

Any chance of getting some closeups of the blade and handle?

Since it is pretty much the same on each side, I guess this'll do.

Cool, so there's at least an outside chance the CC#d ones will reach their owners before Christmas. Congratulations on being the first to get (or at least the first to brag about getting :D ) one.

Been carrying a Stretch that way since they first came out.

Handle material and steel marking seems to be the only visible differences between the old and the new.

How much does it weigh? Is it laminated ZDP-189 or solid ZDP-189?

I've got no way to weigh it, but it seems pretty much the same as a regular stretch. I don't think you could tell the difference.
Just better steel.

Also, if you look at a Caly, you can see the laminations very clearly. This is solid zdp which is why it's made is Seki. According the the sales girl at the factory store, they have a hard time importing the zdp so they make it there.

It's soooooo smooth and the lock is totally spyderco solid. It's first task was to section an apple for a snack. Performed that flawlessly. :D

It is peel-ply CF, it looks a lot like G10. Congrats on the new Stretch. You're not the first, but possibly the first 'civilian' to own one with bragging rights! :D

It kind of reminds me of the mini-Manix.... But smaller.. and stuff

It's a good in between for the mini-manix and the paramilitary, I suppose. :o

I cannot wait to get one. When are they going to be at some of the favorite online retailers?

Very sleek! I hope I can get one of these for Christmas. Good to see it's peel-ply instead of smooth.

Looks alot like the CF peel-ply from the Millie Sprint last year. Love my Millie with the peel-ply. It does remind a little of G-10, but the "new" feel of G-10 out of the box goes away with use and wear. The peel-ply stays that way. Look forward to getting that.............

Hi Rnr,

Congrats. I've been carrying one for some time now, so yours is the 2nd.

We made our first "Hunter" model about 1983. The current version is some 5 generations refined.

Hi Paul,

The collector pieces are being numbered now.

There are some minor differences. The peel-ply carbon fiber combined with the sekeltonized liners make for a lighter piece. (128.1gms - 110.3gms)

We went to the E4/D4 clip so it was necessary to make the butt a tad longer.

The ZDP is very nice. I've been thinning the edge on mine....by hand. Slow tedious work.

rnr,

you are one lucky guy! The word from Golden is that the the SFO got those by mistake. The good news (for Deacon and other CC members) is that the first batch of 200 are being sent out to be engraved.

For the rest of us, they should be getting in another shipment late November/early December. These will be used to fulfill back orders from dealers and distributors (glad I've got mine in :D ).
