From the "S.A.S." Files.....

Post by The CoPilot »

For some time now, I've been keeping what I call the "S.A.S. File" (S.A.S. stands for "Seriously Abused Spydies) of knives seen on eBay.

Here's what appears to have been a serrated version of the Police model that was ground down to remove the serrations. Don't you just hate it when people do stuff like that? I'd think the International Order of the Spyderedge folks would be livid when they see things like this:

Could have just been an attempt to squeeze a bit more useful life out on a knife on which the tip had been broken and the serrations had already been worn down to ripples. Can't really fault someone doing for that, which is not to say I'd bid on it. ;) At least the pictures make it crystal clear what condition the blade is in.

:spyder: :spyder:  :spyder: :spyder: First, I mean no disrespect to Deacon, but   ...In my opinion, wether it used to be a Spyderedge, or the user just wanted to get a little more life out of allot of :spyder: , it looks to me like the user was lacking in sharpening. Plus, going by the last photo submited in this thread that there might have been some grinding done! Maybe I'm wrong. I know a dude that sharpens his knife(bm) with a file..YIKES! P.S....No worrys...it wasn't a :spyder:

Man it just hurts my heart to see a Spydie like that, even if it was a salvage operation. I don't understand why anyone would try to sell a knife in that condition...how much could they possibly get out of it?

Here's one that some of you may have already seen. It's an early C01 Worker that had the blade tip break and was reground down into what you see here:

Here's another interesting one for the "Abused Files."

This knife is an early C09 CoPilot. It's one of the brass-lined variety from the first run, and has the etched logo of the "Los Angeles Sheriff's Deparment" on the handle scale. But what is most interesting about it is how someone ground a sweeping curve into the spine of the blade just ahead of the Spyderhole. I'm really not sure why the blade was ground down like that other than possible because somebody thought it looked better that way. I can't believe that the grinding was due to blade damage since that portion of the blade is full thickness.

For comparison purposes, here's a "normal" brass-lined C09 CoPilot. Note the overall blade profile:

Maybe the person who reground that Co-Pilot was trying to make it look like a Mouse.

You have to wonder why someone did all that grinding, it must have taken forever to rough grind, and then finish the spine. The owner must have really wanted it to look different? :D
