Ok,



So I'm showing off the photo of the ATR to my wife and she asked me a question about where Spydies were manufactured and I did not know the answer. So, here we go.



Spyderco manufactures knives in both Golden, Colorado and in Seki-City Japan. Sometimes, one model is manufactured in both plants. (i.e. Native) Here's the question:



To a collector, which knife would hold more "value". The one manufactured in Golden, or the one from Seki-City? Why?

Being that only about 7 or 8 in the line are currently manufactured in Colorado, I would say this adds an intrinsic, sentimental value to the knives. Qualitywise, I think both are equally excellent. I do not own any Golden, CO knives so far, but I have handled several and I still think all Spydercos are excellent quality for whichever price-range or use they represent. For example: A SpyderCard is very good quality for its use and price range, but not comparable to a Chinese Folder or a Starmate (which I think is next on my list nowadays).

It's like comparing a Nissan and a Jaguar. Both are excellent quality but triggered to different uses and "needs". <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle> Oh, and I drive a Nissan, not a Jaguar yet... yet... LOL! <img src="tongue.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

I don't have any real evidence, but I wouold guess that collectability would have more to do with the designs and the number produced, rather than where. It's trust in the Spyderco name that guarantees the quality.

Kahz, my feelings exactly. Although quality from both plants is excellent, I too have a sentimental feeling for the Golden, CO Spydies.

Sharp1, great picture, as always. Like Nervous, said, it IS purdy! Hopefully, we're all still around to see the first "space-born" Spydie!

That is one gorgeous knife! Is that a forum special? I hadn't heard of a bug inlay Vesuvius.

Jeff, Yes indeed, this model is standard stock and priced the same as the inlay models. Shop prices as some sites run bargains on these.
