I know it's nitpicky to ask, but did the Manix's jimping change? Mine's of the somewhat painful "4 barbs" variety, and I thought I saw a photo of new (full size) Manix with the more traditional "fine" jimping under the thumb.

Which one came first?

When did they transition?

What d'you suppose the reason for the change was?

Not sure when it changed but the 4 "barbs" came first.

I prefer the 4 barbs myself. I actually thought I liked the smaller jimping on my Para and Mili but I actually ended up liking the old jimping better. It seems to give better purchase to my thumb. The old style is a bit rough but it does what it is meant to.

I'm with David. I have the early, rougher jimping on my Manix and am quite fond of it.

Any idea of when the change occurred?

Care to hazard a guess as to why it changed?

I absolutely love the "4 barbs" jimping. I don't find it painful and it really works
- best jimping design I've seen yet. It's on my Millie, Para, Salt 1, and Manix.

Spyderco has been tinkering with the jimping in several models the past year. Salt, Manix, Military and probably others. It seems they finally decided on the finer jimping you now see in the current D4, Military, Salt and Manix. I prefer the current finer jimping. I even waited with the purchase of my PE Manix, to get the finer jimping. Why? I can only think of customer feedback.

I have the thicker jimping on both my manix and para. I'm not really a fan of it. It looks great but feels rough, but it does work really well with gloves. They changed from thick to thin because of feedback awhile ago.

I know your post isn't looking for opinions, but sorry, I don't know the time of the switchover from 4 barbs to fine jimping. Wish I knew; looks to have been sometime in 2007 by Blonde's post above.

I do have an opinion though ->> I like the fine jimping much better.
