Well even I will have accept that the life of a Spyderco can be short , but will still live in my pocket . May be time to get back ups . Thanks for the heads up Zen , sad day very sad day . Regards MG2

In a way it doesn't surprise me a great deal. I'm still scratching my head of the discontinuations of the Dodo, the fixed blade Temperance, The Gunting and the Spyderhawk.

But then again what we here in Spyderville revere as sacred others just look at as an old top 40 hit

It seems to me like it's been a decent selling model. But maybe they got something better to replace it with. Maybe this will make way to bring back the C-60 Massad Ayoob :cool:

I think I read somewhere of work on a Manix2.

The fact that none of you MUCH more Spydie-knowlegeable people have commented on this leads me to think I must be mistaken.

Nothing verified yet MG2.

I feel like discontinuation of the full-size Manix would leave a pretty big gap in the Spyderco lineup...

I wouldn't be surprised. To me it seems too large and bulky to be a good folder. Even the Mini is huge and thick. I love how it looks but it's just too large for my tastes. Even more so it's just too heavy and thick for my pocket.

I know what you're saying David but it really never was intended to be an ideal EDC. It is pretty much geared to be an outdoor knife or military blade. It is designed for very heavy use. And for that arena it is par excellent'.

I have yet to figure what role model the Mini Manix is supposed to fill. If I wanted a short blade with a Tank frame I would go LiL Temperance any day over the Mini Manix. Oh well; I don't like every flavor of ice cream that Haagen Daz makes either :rolleyes:

JD, while I agree that it's a very heavy use knife for outdoors I would much rather just carry a 3.5" bladed fixed blade for that. Example: Ontario TAK-1. I think there is a limit that folding knives should be used for. I can't think of any time I would need to have a Manix that I would have not grabbed a stout fixed blade.

I think the Mini Manix is supposed to fill the spot of the Lil' Temp, but if I want a great knife with a 3" blade I'll take the Para. :)

And you're right.....we can't like every flavor.

I almost always have mine on me and I hardly notice it. I guess I'm immune to large and bulky knives in my pockets, as the Manix, Military, and the Rukus never bothered me when I carried them. I only notice them a bit when I reach into my pocket or when I need them. I do wear jeans with decent sized pockets, however, so maybe that is part of it. Either way the Manix has been a very good knife for me, and it gives you extreme confidence when using it.

I say if a Folder is strong enough to act as a fixed, such as a Compression and Frame Lock, then those folders are better than others. If I can carry a Folder that is as good as a fixed, then why carry a fixed. Its bigger and Illegal. I can say my strider SNG and all my Compression locks are just as strong as most fixed blades to a certain extent and I trust them so.

I don't want to carry a arsenal of knives, I want 1 that does it all. Utility is what I want for my needs.


As for the manix being discontinued, I read that on Blade forums, I think the guy at the show just wanted to sell the knife. If the guy got his info from a dealer, why wouldn't we hear about it first. There are quite a few dealers on this forum. if 1 knows, I'm pretty sure most do.

Nooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!! I was going to get a Military which I don't even have the money for! It will probibly take me another 5 months or so, But after that I was going to get a full size Manix Which I might get for christmas! I can't get one if it's discontinued. I am going to cry..........

I hope not,manix is my EDC i may need another one day..

So is there any truth to this?

Y'all saw Sal's response to the Manix disco rumor at BF, I assume? He wrote:

If they are disco'd, I'll be snapping them up at disco prices, I hope. This was THE KNIFE that got me into Spyderco, ol' number one, the grandpappy of my collection.
