Mini ATR?

#1

Post by StuntZombie »

I was carrying my ATR today, and as much as I love it, I couldn't help but think how much nicer it would be if it was a bit smaller, say a 3" blade as opposed to the almost 4" blade. Any chances of us seeing a smaller version?

There's a "crazy" smaller version of it... sort of. The Jester.

Mini ATR? I like the sound of that.
Though, when I thought about it, a smaller ATR would basically be a Compression lock Adventura. Which I would also really like.
Either way a smaller SS knife with a compression lock would be awesome.

Mini ATR would be great. I am always interested in another 3" blade knife. For me the current ATR is just too big for my tastes/needs, but I like the design a lot.

A 3"-bladed ATR would be fantastic! I tend to leave my ATR at home in lieu of other EDC knives due to its size - 3" of blade with all other components scaled down appropriately would be just right...

I'd be interested in a 3-inch ATR, doesn't even matter if it's a steel handle vs. ti.

I also think a mini ATR would be great. I like my ATR, but it is a beast.

I would like a G10 handled ATR. The machined out holes would look great in G10. My favorite handle is the yojimbo, as it is an elaborate shaped G10 handle. Would have to be a different lock mechanism though, which would have to take away from the very cool ATR design.
I really like composites.

Maybe not quite that mini felly ;)

spydutch, Does your ATR not lock up solidly?

About the only other change I can come up with is shortening the "horn" on the front of the blade. I think it improve the flow of the knife, while still allowing for a spot to place your index finger during delicate cutting chores.

Do you guys feel the cobra hood is an improvement? I'm kind of neutral on it myself. I find it makes the knife easier to open, without getting caught on my pockets. On the other hand, it's just one more screw that could loosen up..

My SS ATR is too heavy/big for casual EDC. Too big and too heavy. I am hoping it will be a good winter/gloved carry with the Cobra Hood (tm). ;)

A smaller ATR would get my $$$. Let us be honest here, it is the $$$ that drives all other considerations. A new mini Titanium ATR with imbedded diamonds would be great but would it recoup its Spyderco costs?

I work for a company that prides itself on its good works in regard to society but the bottom line is if we are not producing sufficiant free market profits there will not be enough cash flow to support our charities and independent good works.

WOW! this is going way off topic but the point is true. Spyderco must (painfully) choose which items will see the light of day and which old friends will be abandoned. It doesn't matter which is your favorite. If it lost money... it must go.

I like the SS ATR but I won't buy a half dozen or so like I've done with the Wally World Natives.

Something lighter and shorter in the same form facter would warm my Spyder-centric heart.

I like my SS ATR but it will be my only one. I would like a new smaller varient.

I have more Spydies than I could ever justify owning. I want more.

A G-10 with holes in the same spots sounds nice. I think it could retain the compressin lock aswell. I would go full liners with it instead of nested. That really would be something I'd like to see. I haven't handled one so I can say how the size would suit me, but if those changes were made, I think I would have to strongly consider it. Sounds interesting.

Never smaller, always BIGGGGER. he he, just kidding. I too think that would be great. ATR rocks :)
I'd rather be tried by 12, than carried by 6.

If Spydie made everything we want, we'd go broke too.

Mini ATR should be moderatly smaller and much lighter.

The ATR locks rocks as is.
