I am surprised this is not a bigger topic on here, but How do you guys shave?

I personally use the old style safety razor and a Boar brush with either Trumpers shave soap or Proraso.

Very carefully...

I use a Mach III Turbo. I tried electrics but they tore up my face too much.

I have tried every kind of razor made and I have found the best for me to be the Mach III.

I also have to shave right after I get out of the shower or I tear up my face.

I have an assortment of straight edge razors, GEM single-edge razors, and double-edge razors (Gillette & Merkur). I use a shaving brush with soaps or creams -- no "canned foam."

Alot of the time the newer Gillette products are Gimmicks and they do more harm than good. But different things work for different people.

Also if you have sensitive skin, try a shave soap, well they are not filled with chemicals and deodorant smells and some if not most or organic. I was at first very skeptical, though the difference is night and day.

I have tried Safety Razors but it's been a good 10+ years. I just have pretty sensitive skin I think. Maybe I'll give 'em a try again.

I wonder how well straight razors are and how many folks still shave with them?

Chris H, how do you like shaving with a straight razor?

I'm currently using the Gillette Fusion. For years I used the Gillette Mach 3 Turbo without problem. The Fusion has worked great thus far for me. I find the shave a bit more comfortable than the Mach 3. However, that little single blade they put on the back for "trimming" I find basically useless to me. I also stick with Edge gel. I have a thick, slow growing beard with fairly sensitive skin so I find shaving a pain in the you-know-what. Not sure if I want to try the safety razor, but I have heard and read that just switching from a foam or gel to a shaving soap and brush will make a big improvement. I'm thinking about taking that route.

If I don't shave every 2nd or 3rd day I have no hope of getting a 2nd shave out of the blade. Quite often I'll just shave friday, but that means using the same clippers I use on my head to get it down to a shaveable point... and even then quite often I'll be using a 2nd blade by the time I'm done.

I went through a couple electric ones, had to keep stopping 1/2 way through to clean the head.

I use a 40+ year old safety razor, shaving brush and soap.

Scary - I've had the exact same experience. Mach 3 works best for me; electric razors are only useful on me as a torture device; and the pre-shave shower is required, unless I'm going for the "scraped and sliced" look.

I'm using that FUSION thing now as well. FIVE blades on a disposable shaver...?

Actually, it's amazing. I shave in the shower, so I had to get one of those fogless mirrors (they never work!) and I use Nivea for Men gel. When I'm done, my face (going up OR down) feels like my 4-year-old son's backside..

Now, if I could figure out a way to carry 5 Spydie blades @ once...

After my USMC career and several more years in and out of a suit and tie, I just stopped shaving about 2 years ago. I trim it with a hair trimmer occassionally but thats it. Right now I have the "demented Visigoth look" going quite well and my wife tolerates it fairly well.

When I did shave it was with one of my grandfathers straight razors (given to me at age 14 when I started shaving, much to my mothers dismay.) a boar hair brush and shaving soap.

I use a Mach 3 currently, but that changes from time to time.

Every now and then, I haul out my old safety razor, just for a change. It does tear up my face, though - I'm a sensetive guy with sensetive skin. :D

I've always wanted to try a straight razor, but I'm afraid I'd need to put a bucket under my face to catch all the blood that would likely be spewing forth.

Canned shaving cream works okay for me.

I you guys have the store Target around, in there spa section they have the imported shave goods from Italy. Well they have some of the stuff from the brand Proraso, http://www.sesto-senso.com/proraso_shaving2.html#1 I use the Proraso Eucalyptus Shave Soap(Tube) and the After shave. These 2 products have offered be the absolute best shaving experience. I also have tried alot of After shave stuff, and this is by far the best as It doesn't have much alcohol.


Also you don't need a safety razor to enjoy the old style shaving techniques. If I go to sleep late and need to go out early I tend to use my Gillette Sensor 3(the sensor 3 and mach are the same, the mach just pivots back and forth from left to right while the sensor series doesn't.) but I use the brush and shave soap. I do always have a few cans of Barbasol, but they almost never get used.

Well what I am trying to say is that even though the Shave soaps are more expensive, they are more expensive for a reason and they are bloody amazing. The Proraso soap with Eucalyptus gives you such a immense feeling on your face, it makes shaving enjoyable. When you are done shaving, put the rest of the lather on your face and then rinse it off with really cold water. Something that cant be explained.

Havn't taken a razor to my face in a couple of years. Occasionally I take the dog clippers set at 3/8" and do the head and face. Nice and easy.

I shave about once every two weeks in warm weather, every month during winter, and have been doing this for years. My wife bought me some sort of beard trimmer to ease the pain of removing "the topsoil" :D before shaving. For the actual shaving part I use some three blade Gillette razor, the wife also takes care of buying the blades for me. I must add I've worn big *** mutton chops (ala 1960's Skinhead) since I was 16, so there isn't much to shave in the first place, must be the English side of the family. :)

An electric razor, because I'm too lazy to do the real thing. :p

I use the claw of a polecat for a razor, mud imported from Yellowstone park for shaving cream, and crushed Spruce pine needles for aftershave....and my shaving looks about what you would expect from that combination.

Also, I had acne pretty bad when i started shaving and was afraid i would do catastrophic damage with a razor. :eek:
