In the big HAWKBILL thread we had going for such a long time we determined that we here in Spyderville wanted a New Hawkbill. With the Superhawk, P'Kal and whatever else is in the Great Spyder Pipeline we see that we did get some attention for which we are very grateful. In this thread I would like to know what you all would want to see in a New Hawkbill. Or what would be your idea of a Hawkbill that you would deem practical and usable.

What features would you all want to maybe see in a New Hawkbill knife that you haven't previously seen? What bells & whistles, features and innovations would you say that would make a Hawkbill ideal for your anticpated uses?

I've heard it said that some of you wouldn't have any use for a Hawkbill. I just don't give into that talk. I say that Hawkbill blades just need some modifications. I am sure that there would be modifications that would make them suitable for Marine/saltwater use. I am sure that with the right features farm and construction workers would have a new useful tool. What say you all?

I'm all for new hawkbills....I wouldn't mind maybe seeing a larger Tasman. I carry my Tasman constantly. Don't think its left my pocket once since it arrived.

I am looking forward to the Superhawk. The full flat grind, and finger choil, should make it one sweet knife. I would also like to see a Tasman/Harpy sized hawkbill with these features.

i would like the the height of the knife to be smaller when closed. (does that make sense?)

yes it makes sense--more of the blade shoud fit into the handle when folded right?

Well, JD, like you said: We've got hawkbills in the form of the Harpy, Tasman, P'Kal, and Superhawk. We got easy curves, strong curves, hollow grind, flat grind, FRN, SS, CF, G10, S30V, VG10, H1, back locks, comp locks, ball locks, and most importantly: Spyderholes. I Honestly don't know how to improve on that...

...unless we get something in purple G10.

What I would like to see beyond waving the Superhawk... :p

I want, (in the worst way!!), a smaller hawkbill with a blade shape closer to the Superhawk but possibly just a hair under 3 inches...with a slightly reinforced tip for incredible piercing!!! If it was in G10 or even FRN, it would be in my pocket every single day!!!!

I formally retract my prior statement (save for the purple G10 part) and go with "Yeah, what Tim said!"

The blade on the Tasman is sub-3", but I'd actually vote for having something around the 1.5-2" range. Another playmate for the rest of the LBK's, if you will

A relatively small utility oriented HawkBali.

That's not really an option though, because that would have very limited market appeal(meaning I'm the only one that would buy one).

A small light Hawkbill, BB lock, and a relatively large handle and small blade. A pocket scalpel essentially. Something to replace the Dodo.

Almost EXACTLY what I had in mind, smc!!! Something that I could carry in the city for opening boxes, but that I would "go to" for SD!!!! I would love to have it in CPM S30V!!! I love that steel and it would be an "homage" to the Dodo. :D

I would like to see a Spyderco Hawkbill with a long very slight curve...don't care how big the knife is or what it is made from...just the slightest curve with a reinforced tip by arcing the spine towards the point with a downward angle (almost like on the wharnies or sheepfoot, also with the slightest curve possible) This I think would make a nice Self-Defense Hawkbill....Let the Mariners use a Harpy or Tasman......I want to see a fighting Hawkbill...Doc :D

I'd like to have a small, more people friendly hawkbill. something the size of the dragonfly or even ladybug would be great :D

Or maybe even a harpy necklace knife would be fun :D

Spyderhawk reincarnation, saber ground hawk based on the endura4 frame, but if it sold well it would still be here, so I wouldent expect to see one. but you asked :D

The Para-Hawk?

going along w/ some of the ideas in earlier posts, I like the idea of a purple handle, G-10 would be great. I picture the blade being the shape of the P'kal blade, but serrated. The handle could be some sort of modification of the Yojimbo handle in order to fit the blade profile, compression lock would be cool, tip-up carry... :spyder: :spyder: :D

Personally, I'd be happy with another Spyderhawk based on the E4 platform. Maybe even another Merlin.

Well JD, for me it's very easy.

Just bring back the G10 Harpy with a slightly wider blade in VG 10 or S30V (full spyderedge of course :D ).

Nothing fancy......

Hello JD ! I would like to see sooner than later with the new Superhawk . I would like to see a larger Salt Pacific Hawkbill blade . A Sprint run lefty/righty Harpy in both blade types with Giraffe scales . Whew ! A small version of the new Superhawk would also be a nice compliment . Regards MG2
