Got a couple new toys in the mail today: a small French Douk-Douk knife from Garrett Wade and a Micro Widgy Pry Bar from County Comm.

Here are some pics of the Douk-Douk -- a simple, carbon steel slip-joint knife -- and the Micro Widgy attached to my Photon Freedom Light and Leatherman Squirt P4 key-ring attachment.

That's a sweet slippie. How's the backspring? I'm going to have to look into that little pry bar. It looks really handy.

Thanks Mike. The backspring is very strong. The knife "snaps" at the closed position, the open position, and at the mid-way point (90 degree angle). It snaps shut firmly and audibly. Thin and lightweight -- I like it a lot.

The micro pry bar is very well made, and a steal at only $5 from countycomm.com. They also have a larger sized one.

Very nice, on both of them.

However, I think I like the names better than the actual knife/prybar :D

"Widgy" :D

I'm gonna have to test out the Douk Douk on some facial hair tomorrow... :p

i spent some time sharpening the carbon blade last night. wow! it takes a wicked edge! even a few light passes on a D8XX diamond hone, with no follow-up on finer hones, produced a very sharp and toothy finish. this type of steel is clearly easier to sharpen than the new super stainless steels, but it also has a noticeably shorter time until it needs sharpening again.

That's terrific. I love half-stops on a slip joint.

Dang. Made me get one. Convexed the edge; they get plenty sharp and it's more than easy, too.

For the money, a very nice knife.

Great pics arzh!

I recently added a patina to my Douk-Douk by dipping it in lemon juice. I actually let is soak overnight, and man is the blade DARK now! I like the look.

I'll post some pics soon...

For a faster effect, try FeCl3.

Patinas also develop on their own though ;)

Douk-Douks are nice. They are thin, sharp and the back spring rivals some liner locks in spine whack (kidding, but only slightly)! They are great back pocket knives that are bullet proof and pretty much legal everywhere. :) :D :cool: :) :D :cool:
