Sal......UUK???

#1

Post by Jazzman »

Sal,

I dont' know how long ago this was, but I remember seeing a Spyderco proto of the Szabo UUK. Am I mistaken or is this a knife that we are to be expecting soon? I hope it's a UUK with around a 3.5 inch blade with a compression lock. That would be the ULTIMATE combat folder.

Hi Jazzman, sorry to get your hopes up with this post but this is not Sal responding. I too would like a UUK Spyderco; however, the knife is so specialized that I'm afraid the number of potential buyers may not make it feasible for Spyderco to put this design into production. (I hope I'm wrong on this). Have you looked at the Masaad Ayoob folder? It may "quench your thirst" while waiting for the UUK. <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

I remember the proto from bladeshow... I'm thinking it was only a liner lock, so a redesign was going to be necessary before any dreams of production can happen. I don't think that there was much hope for that to happen very quickly... maybe if we give it enough time, but again this is a very specialized piece. You might be better served with a fixed version than folding anyway.

I have to agree. The Ayoob model would work just as well as a folding U.U.K.

ftkinney, I saw a picture posted somewhere but can't remember the site. I would describe it as a cross between a Gunting and the Masaad Ayoob folder. The original (non-Spyderco proto) can be seen on Laci Szabo's website.

Ronin you know better than that. The Ayoob doesn't have a sharpened back edge. The angle is slightly different too. other than That if you want an angled blade I don't see a reason not to buy the Ayoob. Just personally if I want a Szabo design I'll wait till it comes out.
I would be interested in seeing a collaboration though.

We're still showing the design at selected shows. So far, reaction hasn't been strong enough to tool up and go. Those that like it really like it, but there hasn't been enough of those yet. We'll keep showing and watching the market.
