Looking for a dealer selling Microtech Hawks?
Looking for a dealer selling Microtech Hawks?
I'm a horse owner looking for an auto hawkbill knife for cutting rope, leather, bailing twine, etc. The only dealers that I've found advertising Microtech Hawks "combo edge" (for less than $175) were OUT! I bought a S&W but it was pretty cheap and not easy to open. Any ideas? Thanks, Rod

You could try knifeforums.com. They have a Microtech section and someone there might be able to help you out. Spyderco makes a few hawkbills themselves, and they are much more reasonably priced. However I realize that it's comparing apples to oranges, but I would think a Tasman would be an excellent knife for what you want to use it for, and if you lost it in the field it wouldn't hurt as much as loosing a Microtech. They are also far better than the S&W's.

First they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not stand up, because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Microtech sucks and the Hawk is made to be used as defensive piece primarily. It will fall apart with utility usage. Microtech's warranty service has about as much skill as drunk chimpanzees and because of the things the owner has said, I will NEVER buy another MicroCrap again. I would consider the Spyderco Tasman Salt, which runs about 50 bucks, uses better steel, is made by a knife maker who actually cares about their customers, has a serration pattern designed specifically to cut fibrous objects, and is easier to open.

I'm not much help on the Microtech, but for the difference in $$, I'd give a Tasman Salt a try first. There is no comparison between it and the S&W.

I don't know how familliar you are with the Spyderco line, but the Salts with H1 steel cannot rust and are good cutters.
