A fully serrated Lava, how about it Sal?

#1

Post by spydutch »

Greetings you all :)

Well, since I read nothing but positive reports about the Lava, so it must be selling well, how about teeth on this little bugger?

I handled one last year on the A'dam show and the knife melted into my big mitts.

However I only like full (or at least 60%) serrated Spydies, so it would be a blast if the Lava could be fully serrated as well in the near future.

I'd but at least 2 of them ;)

Anymore of you in for a fully serrated Lava?

As the matter of fact I talked about this with Sal on the A'dam show last year.

He was asking for possible alterations or improvements on the Captain and I said it would be great if the curve would be fully serrated. Sal wrote it down, but apparantly lost the note or something or decided to make it PE after all :( .

Man, did I love the Captain when I handled it. Perfect fit for my hands. Heck, Eric almost had to pry the knife from my hands with one of those Balisong trainers LOL.

I'd totally be up for a serrated lava. SE is very useful, and I want a lava anyways.

I'm agreeing, SE would be wonderful on the little blade. It would make it cut like a longer blade and would be a great companion with the natural "push cut" egronomics.

I have to agree with a full SE Lava, it would make it even more usefull then it allready is, and it would probably make it my daily EDC, if it were fully serated.

I just no longer get into serrated edges. I'm a full plain edge kind of guy anymore.

I like the Lava but not in SE. ;)

Arend, I knew this thread would happen sooner or later, just couldn't figure out which one of us would post it ;) In short, YES. This needs to happen. I'm behind you 100%! The Lava is in its infancy right now and it eats everything it sees... just think of what a mean cutter it will be with TEETH

While I am a diehard Plain Edge fan, I feel that all the SE Knuts out there deserve to have their favorites in the blade style they choose. ;)
In an ideal Spyder-World, all the Spydies would be available in all blade styles! :)

I am very sorry Spydutch, I didn't have intentions to spoil anything here. :) :) I only wished to express I prefere PE.
I can see strong inclination to SE on this forum. Sorry for my ignorance, could you tell me why and what is the advantage of SE to PE, please?

I'm not sure if SE is more popular here, I just think the SE fans are a bit louder ;) .

It's just a different style of cutting to me, besides the obvious sawing abilities of SE, there are a few others.

SE tends to stay sharper longer than PE. And even if it dose get dull, the scallops will still chew through where dull SE just stalls.

When there isn't a soft surface underneath what you are cutting (like a ceramic plate), a PE edge will just roll and dull while a SE blade won't dull because the points will hit the hard surface first and the scallops will still remain sharp. This is why every steak knife is serrated.

On fibrous or stretchy materials, SE will grab and cut instead of just sliding off of the material. This is why most rescue knives are serrated.

I also find that SE scallops will push cut paper (and cardboard) easier than PE.

Did I miss anything?

I support, and would purchase this for sure. It would make a nice companion to my forum piece, and as I've said before - I'm Old School !!

Stainless Scales, and Serrated Edge - are what Spyderco means to me.

just my 1.4 cents (adjusted for inflation)
